Need a new thread.....

Last night's premiere was pretty good but I have one big question....? scratch Since when have they had that "chamber" that allows easy travel between the two universes ? I don't remember it from previous seasons. They walk into the chamber through one door, "stand very still", there is a burst of fuzzy red light, they walk out the opposite door and voila !, they are in the alternate universe. I won't attempt to explain the physics of that even in a science-fictional sense.... scratch

I imagine it's a by-product of whatever it was Peter managed to do. He bridged the 2 worlds I think.

So maybe that's why the machine that he was in when he disappeared now seems to be over in the alternate "lab" with the guys in the white bunny suits examining it.... scratch

Bill Sadler had about a 2 minute role in last night's ep playing Walter's psychiatrist. I can't say that that brief scene added or subtracted from the overall episode but I'm wondering if he will be featured more, if Walter threatens to go "around the bend" ?.....or something. I still don't understand why no one remembers Peter. I don't recall a 'mind-wipe'..... scratch

he was eliminated from the space time continuum, whatever that means. I think it means that even if he shows up there will be no one who remembers him. donno

Yes. I hope Bill Sadler (Dr. Bruce Sumner) continues his recurring role! woohoo
Seems that there's always a place for a good psychiatrist. peeking

At the end of Episode 3, we find out that Olivia also remembers Peter. I wonder if the alternate world's Olivia and Walter remember Peter??
Potential exists for two people requiring Dr. Sumner's couch! angel

I didn't realize that Bill had appeared in Fringe's first season (2008) ... [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Oh, yes, he had seemed pretty creepy then. This time at least you felt like there was a legitimate concern for Walter's state of mind.

Is last night the start of a new season or a continuation after the holiday hiatus ? Anyway, it was pretty good and there was one amusing thing I noticed. Keep in mind that my "amusements" are usually different than yours.

Nissan is a major sponsor, so in one scene Olivia and Peter are in a Nissan Leaf all-electric. Peter remarks that they have 40 miles to go to their destination. Olivia checks the "remaining range" gauge and says that they have plenty of charge left, about 66 miles worth if I recall.... the Leaf is touted as having a 100 mile range and real world experiences of customers have shown it to be 60-80 miles under good conditions. No indication that there was a charging station available when they reached their destination. So will she be tooling around in a Leaf all season or will she have to revert to one of those black, gas guzzling SUVs when the going gets rough ? scratch

Also, did alt.-Olivia have red hair last season ? I don't remember that she did. Maybe it is a new device to allow us to differentiate between them more easily when they switch universes without warning.

I'm looking forward to tonight's eppie. From the previews I can see that Michael Cerveris (who I won in an auction..to have lunch with) has a pretty big role. He's the watcher that told Olivia that he had seen all the possible futures and in every one she had to die. Can't wait to see what he has to say to her tonight! singing in the rain

I guess we learned two things: The Watchers are evolved examples of humanity's future, a far future presumably. It doesn't bode well that we evolve into bald, expressionless, and possibly emotionless beings. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also we learned that Peter fathered a child with the red haired Olivia from the other universe and will stop at nothing to return to her.

So now what ?..... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

That last episode was rather different and could be considered to be a cautionary tale about living under a socialist dictatorship and what we need to do to avoid such a fate in our own world. Perhaps the last season will address this concept...?

Fox Renews ‘Fringe’ For a Fifth and Final Season

by [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | April 26, 2012 at 10:09 PM | [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Joshua Jackson, John Noble and Anna Torv on "Fringe." (Fox)

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
might not be raking in the ratings that Fox might have hoped for, but
it has its loyal fans, and the network has decided to give them another
season of the show.
Fox has renewed the sci-fi series for a fifth — and last — season with a 13-episode order.

“’Fringe’ is a remarkably creative series that has set the bar as one
of television’s most imaginative dramas. Bringing it back for a final
13 allows us to provide the climactic conclusion that its passionate and
loyal fans deserve,” Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment for Fox
Broadcasting, said of the renewal.

“The amazing work the producers, writers and the incredibly talented
cast and crew have delivered the last four seasons has literally been
out of this world,” he said. “Although the end is bittersweet, it’s
going to be a very exciting final chapter.”

Series co-creator and executive producer J.J. Abrams added
that the fifth season “will allow the series to conclude in a wild and
thrilling way. All of us at Bad Robot are forever indebted to our
viewers and the amazingly supportive Fox network for allowing the
adventures of Fringe Division to not only continue, but to resolve in a
way that perfectly fits the show.”

I'm confused about the last episode....so they are counting down as the machine is activating and when it does the people from the alternate universe disappear. Does this mean that they are forever "gone", along with their entire alternate universe ? If so, why ? If not, and they merely returned to their alternate universe why did they have to go through all that with the machine rather than just walking through the "transfer chamber" ?

I'm assuming that the former explanation is correct but this means that next season they won't be able to do any alternate universe plots, which are the most interesting and is why the ratings have stayed acceptable to Fox. If they return to the "monster in the sewer" or "people with odd conditions" plots of earlier seasons it will less interesting. But since it will be the last season maybe they don't care.... I think they just severed the connection between the 2 universes. They still each exist except the one universe was healing the other and that will now stop. So one of them lives on hunky dory and the other has a universe where there are no rainbows. Sad

Yes, our world was healing theirs. So that's why all the double actors' characters were friends there at the end. What will happen next is anyone's guess. But I think it's a good thing they are having just one more season to wrap it up. Don't think this level of complexity can be sustained without making the viewers heads explode much longer! :D
