That was a fairly useless "special Friday show". We've seen it all before. tongue At least they started the next HOH comp. We will learn the winner today. The CBS TV show viewers will have to wait until tomorrow or even Wed. to find out.

'Big Brother 19' Recap: Derrick, Clips and the Double Eviction Fallout
John Kubicek

Senior Writer, BuddyTV
Big Brother 19 has decided to give us a special Friday night episode. And just like last year, it's a pointless clip show that looks back at all of the drama from the first seven weeks, even though there's probably going to be ANOTHER clip show in four weeks when the Final 3 reminisces about the season.

Also, season 16 winner Derrick Levasseur shows up to set up the clips. The irony, which is not mentioned in the episode, is that Cody and Mark spent the last week complaining about how boring season 16 was and how this season is another dud where the HGs just do what the house wants instead of playing their own games.

3 Ways BB19 Can Turn It Around>>>

The only interesting part is the first 10 minutes where we see the fallout from the double eviction, with Paul attacking Mark because losing his friend and girlfriend in the DE wasn't bad enough.

Double Eviction Fallout

It seems Jason briefly wanted Matt to be the target after Mark won the Power of Veto during the double eviction, but Josh put the target back on Elena. Now Mark is very sad that Elena is gone and he knows that it's him vs. the entire house. Paul doesn't understand how no one has even tried to put him on the block yet. Matt says that even though showmances are being targeted, he feels safe. He's an idiot, because Alex tells us that she's targeting Maven next.

Paul decides to confront Mark about Jason's speech where he revealed that Mark approached him about targeting Paul. Paul uses this as an opportunity to attack Mark in front of the house to make an example out of him. Mark just rolls over and plays dead because he feels so defeated.

Derrick Comes In

Season 16 winner Derrick Levasseur walks in with a bag and everyone freaks out, with Alex and Raven overacting like hell. Josh hilariously points out that Derrick made it to the end without ever being nominated while controlling the whole season, which is EXACTLY what Paul is doing but he doesn't see it. Derrick asks them about the season, which leads into a clip show.

Clip Show

Here are the various segments we get in the episode.

-Josh bangs pots and pans and yells at people. It's not fun anymore, it's just annoying.

-Derrick asks about Jody and they all say they hated them, but Derrick turns it into a positive thing about how they loved each other for a long showmance segment about two people who've been evicted.

-There's an entire segment about Ramses having a crush on Mark and Paul, then he realizes that Matt is that perfect combination of them. Even the editors hate the rest of the cast and would prefer Jessica, Cody and Ramses to still be there.

-There's a segment about Alex and Jason's friendship and once again she tells everyone that he is her ride-or-die. It's mostly just her physically and verbally abusing him nonstop.

-We get a Marlena segment where Mark looks like a total wuss. Basically, Derrick is only here to set up all of the clip packages the editors already put together.

-Matt gets a cereal-eating segment. Yes, an entire segment about him eating cereal. He gets up in the middle of the night to "pound bowls of cereal while no one's there."

-Kevin's segment is about walking around the yard with Jason and making him laugh.

-Derrick shoehorns in a segment about Jessica calling the Heisman Trophy the Hymen Trophy. She doesn't know what a hymen is and asks everyone while Cody teases her.

-They show the Mark vs. Josh pickle juice fight again.

-Alex gets a prank segment. Between her and James from the last two seasons, is "Asians are pranksters" a stereotype I didn't know about?

The funny part is that Raven, Paul and Christmas didn't get any segments in the clip show, but Ramses got one and Jessica got two.

The HoH Competition Begins

We see the set-up for the next HoH competition, which is a bracket-style tournament where the eight HGs go head-to-head in a series of battles answering questions about things that have happened during the season.

So the last five HoH competitions have been two skill/luck games (Josh's golf and Jason's shuffleboard) and three quizzes. Are they saving all of the physical competitions for the end?

So we know already that Christmas won the HOH. That's good. I'd like to see her go all the way but that's unlikely because her broken foot in the cast will hamper her in the physical comps. which will be coming up later. Meanwhile she could have shaken things up as HOH by nominating Paul for eviction. Too many of the other HGs would probably be 'too scared' to vote for him but as long as he's in the house he is the most likely winner. So she does the 'safe' thing and nominates Matt and Jason who are basically both pawns. Unless one of them wins POV and she is required to nominate a more 'volatile' HG such as Paul or even Alex, then this will be a ho-hum eviction on Thursday.

'Big Brother 19' Spoilers: Who Are the Week 8 HoH and Nominees?
John Kubicek

Senior Writer, BuddyTV

After the double eviction, only nine HGs remain on Big Brother 19 and we're less than five weeks away from the finale. Will they start thinking about the endgame and take out the biggest threats, or will Paul's minions take control and do his bidding yet again?

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains Big Brother 19 spoilers.

Christmas is the new HoH!

She nominated Matt and Jason.

On Friday's clip show episode, Christmas announced that she wanted to win HoH to make a big, unexpected move that would shake up the house. It's hard to pick up everything from the live feeds, but if I had to guess I'd say the plan is to backdoor Mark, which wouldn't be a big move at all.

BB19 Recap: Double Eviction Fallout>>>

But it's become pretty clear that Matt and Jason are the go-to pawns as they've both been nominated three times now. Meanwhile, Paul and Kevin have never been on the block, Christmas and Raven have only been nominated once and Alex hasn't been nominated since the first two weeks.

There was also some type of new Temptation twist, though it's unclear what it is. It involved apples (possibly from the LED tree in the living room) and it looks like it's just all of the usual Care Package options people may have won. It's unclear how many, if any, were awarded or who won them. These are some of the options:

-Save a Friend
-Can't Play in the Next HoH
-Bounty on Your Head
-Eliminate 2 Eviction Votes
-Second Veto

FUN FACTS

-During the double eviction, Kevin tied the record of April Lewis from season 6 for surviving eight HoH reigns without ever being nominated or winning a competition. If he doesn't win the PoV and avoids being the replacement nominee this week, he'll break the record.

-Kevin and Raven are now the only HGs who have not won any competitions. In the last four summer seasons, only four other HGs have made it this far without winning a competition: Natalie Negrotti, Julia Nolan, Meg Maley and Amanda Zuckerman. None of them did better than sixth place.

This is a pretty accurate assessment of Cody. His exit upon being evicted was classic. It happened so fast that I didn't have time to wonder if that glass coffee table that he walked on, on his way out would be able to sustain his weight. Luckily it did. But another more serious thing that I wonder about is what sort of relationship he can have with Jessica in the real world ? They both profess their love for each other but it seems to me that it's more one sided than Jessica realizes and Cody doesn't seem to be the type to form long lasting relationships, which he's already pointed out while in the house. Jessica could attract almost any type of man, if she wants to, although in her job she probably doesn't attract the sort that would make good marriage partners. Maybe Cody's 'differences' is what attracted her, but I don't predict long term harmony.

Why Cody Was the Best Terrible Player in 'Big Brother' History

Derek Stauffer
Contributing Writer, BuddyTV

Cody Nickson was pretty much doomed from the start of Big Brother 19. Despite winning that first Head of Household, Cody went mad with power. Cody betrayed his entire alliance within the first week and went from the leader of the pack to the bottom of the totem pole. The Battleback might've given Cody a second lease on life but it was always on borrowed time. Cody, quite simply, couldn't play Big Brother. Cody's the completely wrong person to win the game but that didn't stop him from becoming one of the most entertaining houseguests of the season.

Big Brother 19 Recap: The Double Eviction>>>

A Different Type of Character

Cody isn't the typical Big Brother fan favorite and not just because most people are still more than a little bit shaky about how to feel about the ex-marine. Cody lacks almost all the qualities of someone like a Johnny Mac or a Britney Hayes on even an Evel Dick.

They're all bursting with personality and Cody barely has one. There's a reason that Big Brother took to adding robotic sound effects when Cody would move in the last days in the house. It's Cody's apparent lack of all personality that made him so much fun to watch however.

Big Brother 19 is overloading on the type of houseguests who want to be famous. Paul has doubled down on his desire to be a memorable reality TV star. He doesn't have the catchphrases anymore but he is still big on building his "FRIENDSHIP" brand in every second of screen time. Raven has no desire to win the game but rather just to tell the world about her many, many diseases. Josh, meanwhile, has completely taken over Paul's noxious behavior from his previous season with the pots and pans and the meatball catchphrases.

Put alongside such ridiculous people, Cody's complete lack of pretense is almost a breath of fresh air. Cody didn't want to be famous. Cody didn't even seem to want to be on TV and that made him a fascinating enigma throughout the season.

Fighting to Be Remembered

Cody's inability to be even slightly civil ruined his chances in the game but it made for great TV. Usually when a houseguest dislikes another, they try to hide it for the sake of their game. Cody was either unable to hide it or just didn't care, which resulted in some wonderfully uncomfortable moments throughout the season. Cody didn't just cause drama in the house but he was able to add to the audience's enjoyment of that drama.

Big Brother 19 Is Getting the Show's Best Ratings in 3 Years>>>

Cody's (second) exit from the house alone should go down in the Big Brother Hall of Fame. It certainly wasn't nice and in fact was probably extremely petty but it was 100% honest to who Cody is as a person and that's fun and refreshing to watch on reality TV, especially Big Brother. Cody never felt fake or manufactured, but still managed to be more memorable than almost the entire house, who are constantly trying to produce themselves.

This is not to say that Cody was likable. Cody did many questionable things when he was on top of the house and after he was kicked to the bottom. Cody isn't someone that anyone should really want to hang out with or maybe even respect. When it came to providing some memorable TV moments though, Cody delivered. In any other season, Cody's robotic antics would've resulted in a dud of a houseguest but in Big Brother 19 he was a delight, rivaling and even surpassing the weirdness that is Kevin.

But what do you think of Cody? Was he fun to watch or was he just terrible? How do you think Cody compares to the other houseguests? Who is your favorite houseguest this season?
