BB day 62

Under this scenario it's more likely that Corey will be evicted. His winnning HOH is unlikely, and neither is his winning ACP. All my votes are going to Michelle for ACP this week.

ĎBig Brother 18í: Nicole & Corey Face Great Danger From Next Care Package
By: Matthew Boyer | August 16, 2016 at 4:00 PM EDT

Nicole Franzel and Corey Brooks are about to be greatly outnumbered if things continue down the current course for Big Brother 18. Theyíre likely about to lose their only ally in Paulie and face a very difficult game ahead especially after the next Care Package arrives.

Nicole and Corey on Big Brother 18

With Nicole out of the running for the Co-HoH care package only Corey is eligible from their shrinking alliance and that leaves a big threat to the couple hoping to persist in the season or even survive through next week.

Only Victor wonít be able to compete in the upcoming HoH which means Nicole and Corey will face Paul, James, Natalie, and Michelle in their bid for control and safety, but even if one of the couple wins it this probably wonít be a safe week.

We know something these HGs donít. The next care package gives away half the HoHís power letting the Co-HoH (ACPís recipient this week) share safety and make one of the two nomination picks. Hereís where things get ugly fast for Corey and Nicole.

Letís say Corey wins HoH on Thursday night. Heís going to think both Nicole and he are safe for the week. Nope. When that next package drops from the sky Iím willing to wager Corey wonít be even close to winning that prize. Nicole is out of the running and really this would have been the week for her fans to save for her to win, but thatís spilt milk.

When either Michelle, Paul, or Victor wins the Co-HoH Care Package then theyíll have the power to pick the second nom so up Nicole will go on the Block even with Corey as the HoH.

Even if we flip things around in the scenario with Nicole winning HoH weíve still got the same issue of the other going up on the Block when that Care Package hits the backyard.

If Nicole is HoH, noms Victor, and Corey goes up on the Block after, for example, Michelle wins ACP then that leaves Michelle, James, Natalie, and Paul to all vote out Corey. Yes, we could be watching Corey get voted out under Nicoleís HoH reign next Thursday. Yikes!

Now why donít I think Corey has a snowballís chance of winning this ACP? He is second to last in our poll for who should win it with only Paulie behind him. Then if you go to our Popularity Poll, heís the lowest active HG in last weekís rankings. Heís just not a popular HG and thatís exactly what this ACP twist requires. A few readers have suggested Nicoleís fans could rally to vote for Corey instead, and sure, itís possible, but I donít see it happening in the volumes necessary to impact the outcome.

Should someone other than Nicole or Corey win HoH then I think weíll end up seeing both of them on the Block together with the two noms combined since thatís the latest majorityís group decision and then Corey would be on out the door. Thereís really just no best case scenario for the couple under what we see in the game right now.

Of course if this Friday mystery episode presents a returning Juror competition or some other sort of outside forces overrides the game next week with another twist then things may still work out much differently than Iíve detailed above. And thatís what it will probably take to protect Nicole and Corey from being split up next week and they donít even know it yet.

What do you think might happen? Can you see a likely scenario where the pair could avoid one being evicted next week? Share your thoughts below.

Side note: Yes, of course one could win Veto and save the other. Iím more looking at them likely facing a situation where one is on the Block with the votes pending against them to be evicted

He may be right about Paul. I can't think of anyone else that qualifies as 'best game' overall, for the whole season this far. Natalie seems adequate too but in the end she may flub up. Of course this Friday's "mystery" may shake things up so much that a 'dark horse' may emerge as a potential winner... scratch

Big Brother 18: Who Is Playing The Best Game? [Op-ed]
By: Branden | August 16, 2016 at 12:00 PM EDT

Big Brother 18 has been a very unusual season so far as no one person or one alliance has been dominating the game, which is something weíve all grown used to during the past several seasons.

Out of the gate we had the vets, or ďreturnersĒ as Julie Chen and the BB announcer liked to call them, lead by Frank calling the shots. Then after the vets clashed ó thanks to DaíVonne and Frank ó Paulie took over. Paulieís reign lasted a few weeks longer than Frankís, but as weíve seen in the past week, itís all but gone. Paulieís only hope is that he has that Round Trip ticket and gets another shot this week (or thereís another Battle Back in the works).

So who will take over the game now? Thatís not a bad question to ask, but instead of that question, I have a better one. And thatís who has been playing the best game all along that we may have simply overlooked? Nicole? No way. Sheís playing for the guys and thatís very clear. Michelle? Nah. Sheís too messy. Natalie? Well, Natalie is an option. But a lot of her gameplay has been accidental or from a place of aggravation.

OK, Iím just going to say it. Paul. Paul has been playing the best game so far. Heís playing what is the actual definition of a floater. And thatís not the dirty word Rachel Reilly and many players and fans after her have made it out to be. Floater doesnít mean a person who sleeps all summer, doesnít win competitions and then votes with the house before they get evicted in anywhere from 5th to third place.

A floater is a person who goes where the power is and some how manages to maintain relationships with everyone in the house. Thatís not an easy job to do. The best floaters have a side angle or two as well. Take season 4 winner Jun Song. Jun literally invented the floater game. She went where the power was, but she also had two secret weapons: her cooking and her secret frenemy alliance with Alison Irwin.

In my opinion, no one has ever played the floater game quite like Jun, but season 15 winner Andy Herren came close. But of course his floater game was post-Rachelís ďgrab a life vestĒ comment in Big Brother 12. So Andy got little respect from fans and was often compared to a rat. Which brings me back to Paul.

Earlier in the season, people were calling Paul a rat and comparing him to Andy. There were Twitter memes about it and all the typical insane fan reactions. But call it what you will, it can be a very effective strategy. And it has been for Paul so far. Will it get him to the end? Well with his secret weapons, itís very possible.

Paulís secret weapons, of course, are Victor (who can win competitions and get the blood on his hands) and, I canít believe Iím going to type this, friendship. Paul is just likable. Everyone in the house likes him. Everyone in the house trusts him. Everyone in the house tells him things. And heís always around. He never misses anything going on.

Think about Paulís game. He was on DaíVonneís team, so he ended up with her trust. He was on the non-8 Packís side of the house and was kind of the one keeping them afloat (sorry, Josea). And then he moved on to PP with Paulie. And then he ended up in the Executives with the boys. And now heís in whatever the people who arenít Paulie, Nicole and Corey are calling themselves. I donít think thereís an official alliance there, but thatís beside the point.

Paul has been in all parts of this season and he pushed for arguably the biggest move of the season, which happened this week. Sure Victor won HOH and nominated Corey and Paulie, but Victor was reluctant. Paul was Victorís brain this week.

Donít get me wrong, this is Big Brother and anything can happen. Everything Victor and Paul worked for this week could backfire if BB decides to do something to shake things up. Big Brother 16 winner Derrick Levasseur has even said striking at Paulie this week was a mistake. Iím not sure why he thinks so, but it seemed like a good idea to me and the majority of Big Brother fans. So weíll just wait and see who is right.

Even if this plan does backfire, Paul still has himself in a better position than Victor, James and Natalie. So he could still have a chance to continue his solid gameplay.

Do I think Paul is a mastermind who can get to the end and win the game no matter what? No. Paul isnít a student of Big Brother. Heís seen very little of the show and is what Iím going to call self-taught. Heís not a dumb guy, but heís made a few rookie mistakes here and there. So his game hasnít been a flawless one, but this cast has been so messy that his game looks pretty good comparatively.

And since I know at least half of you are going to call me crazy for talking up Paul, Iím going to say that Natalie has also been one of the better players this season. She figured out things before anyone else and she knew the right little fires to start to get the ball rolling to get Paulie out of the game. So she definitely deserves a mention here.

Regardless of who is playing the best game, Big Brother 18 has really kicked into gear the past week and I hope the power players who are helping that along continue to give us something worth watching.

Who do you think is playing the best Big Brother 18 game?
