Most of you have probably never read this, but I did when it was first published and it made quite a splash in the S-F world.

Denzel Washington's "Book of Eli" reminded me of it, although B of E will have to be much less ambitious...

Re: Plenty of apocalyptic shows .....
Yep "the end of the world" has always been a big box office draw. I admit that I love watching Independance Day and The Day After. And I had already planned to watch 2012. I've been hearing a lot of buzz on the "Eli" movie so I'll see that one too. Didn't know about the TV shows and so...is this all overkill now?
And since art reflects life and life...art...where the heck are we headed? (Just yanking your chain....LOL)

Re: Plenty of apocalyptic shows .....
That's a valid question and sociologists or other cultural observers have speculated that our entertainment preferences somehow reflect our deeper worries and/or can be cathartic in a sense. So we could say that these new shows play on our fears that we're going to hell in a hand basket, which we are in several ways. But such a course is not necessarily irreversible given that elections are 'only' 3 1/2 years away...
We can see the truth behind the speculations though by looking at some of the big movies of the 30's. While Americans were struggling with the Depression and Roosevelt's socialism, Hollywood was churning out romantic escapism with Astaire and Rogers "Flying Down to Rio", and Busby Berkly filling the stage with feather be-decked beauties. And the public ate it up.
No such luck for us, except the apocalypse......oh, and the socialism..

There's always Harry Potter, Twilight and they are getting pretty close to casting The Hobbit.
