Skinwalkers Updates Werewolves
Director James Isaac told SCI FI Wire that his upcoming horror movie, Skinwalkers,
puts a new spin on the old werewolf movie genre. The film, which
depicts a civil war between werewolves called Skinwalkers, stars an
ensemble of familiar genre names, including Jason Behr (The Grudge), Elias Koteas (Lost Souls), Rhona Mitra (The Number 23), Kim Coates (Silent Hill), Natassia Malthe (Elektra) and Sarah Carter (TV's Smallville).
"There are two kinds of Skinwalkers," Isaac said in an
interview. "There are the ones who don't want to embrace the beast and
just want to lead a normal life like everybody else. They just want to
live a normal life and not have ... what they'd consider a curse or
this illness. The other Skinwalkers, who do embrace it, don't want this
curse to end. So that's the conflict, and they're at war constantly."
Complicating matters is a 12-year-old boy, Timothy (Matthew
Knight), who will gain the power to alter the curse when he celebrates
his 13th birthday, reaching the long-prophesied time of transformation.
That day is heralded by a red moon.
"So, of course, the Skinwalkers who don't want the curse to
end are hunting down the child, and the other Skinwalkers are trying to
protect him," Isaac said. "It turns out the Skinwalkers are connected
in the story, and it's family against family and brother [Behr] against
brother [Koteas], which is very interesting."
Skinwalkers marks Isaac's third film as a director, following The Horror Show and Jason X. Before he began directing, he was part of the visual-effects and creature crews on such films as The Fly, eXistenZ, Return of the Jedi and Gremlins. As a result of those experiences, Isaac said, he relied more on practical effects than computer-generated images when making Skinwalkers.
"My background is mixed, but the foundation of my creature work
was very practical, whether it was animatronic work or makeup effects,
like we did on The Fly," Isaac said. "I really felt this
script, because it has such an organic texture about it in tone,
required as many practical effects as possible. The story is not all
done at night or all done in scary, dark corners. Some of it is during
the day. Some of it is at night. It's indoors and outdoors. I loved all
of that, but what's consistent is it's got this very real and organic
texture.
Isaac added: "So, the creatures, when we finally see the beast
come out, of course we wanted the coolest beasts ever. I wanted them to
be prosthetic, to be full-on makeup prosthetics. They had to be a blend
of human to beast, and I needed to see the souls of these people who
are turning into beasts, and the only way to do that is to have the
actors be in these suits and prosthetics." Skinwalkers opens on July 27. —Ian Spelling

Re: Skinwalkers
Penny and I visited the town where part of this film was made. Not my kind of film to see, but I would'nt mind seeing some still pictures from the movie if there are any out there. The town in Canada was very quaint and the people were VERY friendly and didn't mind talking to us about the film making.

Re: Skinwalkers
Yeah, we were hoping for a glimpse of Jason ... :randy:
It didn't take too long to see the town ... one main street about 4 or 5 blocks, maybe! JohnnyB took LOTS of pics (imagine that!)! We ate at a little bar for lunch and they had the smallest jail, wasn't it, Jo? Wish I had some pics to share with you all!

Re: Skinwalkers
Havn't stills from this movie already been released ? I saw some over a year ago online. Jason was wearing funky clothes with a leather harness or something.....and I'm sure it said it was about vampires....

Re: Skinwalkers
Thanks Berry......Exciting trailer....although I could have told you Jason Behr is a beast!!!! Can I say "bite me?" Yeeeoooww!!!!
I do recognize parts of the town, although the trailer is quick and jerky.
Why can't Jason do a nice romantic comedy for ABC TV or something......ok, I'll stop now......

Re: Skinwalkers
Not showing in our movie reviews, so must not be showing around here!
Still never saw "Knocked Up". My daughter said I probably wouldn't like it that much, it was rather crude and they used the "F" word alot. I watched "The 30 Year Old Virgin" and that was my impression of that movie, so ...
It is at the dollar theater now, not sure if I will see it there or wait till it comes out in video!

Re: Skinwalkers
Ber it depends on what you like in a movie.
To me it wasn't very scary. When I think of scary, I think of SAW.
I found the pace of the movie to be slow. Especially the beginning.
There's a lot of gun fights, not too much gore, a couple of nice twists.
It's a story-telling movie. Starts at the beginning and goes to the end with very few flashbacks. And those were too fast.
I didn't care for the way it was edited. They never should have gone for PG13.
Like most peeps, I'm hoping the DVD is an unrated version. :randy:
Jason got decent screen time, but the good guys got more.
I really liked the werewolf costumes except for the chest pieces. You don't see the werewolves that much though.
I give it 7 out of 10.

Good to know. I actually liked a lot of what you described. I wouldn't go see a really scary movie like Saw on a dare!

Re: Skinwalkers
Not sure where you're from TaR, but the movie in the theaters around here (southern Illinois) only had about 15? seconds of the sex scene. Stupid to make this film PG13.
Anyway, along with all the other Behrians, I'm :waiting: waiting for the DVD and hoping it's uncut or a director's cut. :randy:

haha, nice to meet you Jero. I am not sure if you were a member of the old Blu5 community, but I am pleased to meet you. You can call me Tar or totally.
I have been apart of the blu community since I was 13 years old. Well actually, it was first the WB community. And then we grew into the blu community. Because of Roswell! Glad to know you're a Behr-fan too!
