Re: The Alphas
That was a pretty good premier. I think Nina's power would be the best one to have, the most practical and useful for getting what you want. She lives in a rent free apt. in Soho and drives a Bentley Continental GT. Yet another hot Canadian actress. If you took away all the Canadian and Aussie actresses working in the U.S. today, and a few British.....what would you have left ?......think about it....
Valerie Cruz (The Dresden Files, Off The Map) will have a recurring role in future eps as a mysterious "Special Agent".

I liked it too. Nina's powers are great but that's too much power for a man to handle. The other lady seems a bit spaced out even when she is not doing her thing. The autistic kid was slightly annoying at first but he had a funny line or two. I hope the sweaty guy brings extra close when he leaves the house. The sharp shooter guy maybe should hustle pool or a pick up basketball game for some extra cash.

Re: The Alphas
I would say so based on the premier but time will tell....

Re: The Alphas
I tried to watch, but got bored extremely quickly. I think I turned it off after about 10 minutes. For me this show is a big miss.

I gave up on Big Brother back years ago when they started blatantly fixing the winner of the show. However I do have Leverage...and Covert Affairs...and Suits...and Necessary Roughness...and White Collar...and Rizzoli & Isles... and everything on Food Network. I think I can find something to do with my free time.

Re: The Alphas
I just watched tonight....kept drifting off...usually a bad sign. So I'm kinda on the fence about watching the next episode.

"I gave up on Big Brother back years ago when they started blatantly fixing the winner of the show. "..........I don't doubt that it would be possible to fix the outcome but how do/did they "blatantly" fix it ? And how does that benefit the producers/network/etc. I realize that it comes down to ratings, attracting advertisers, advert. rates charged , etc. but I don't see how fixing the outcome is a plus for anyone.

Why they do it is easy...conflict between house members generates storylines which generates ratings. If all of the people who cause conflict in the house are voted out early, there are no interesting storylines to promote and the show loses viewers. I have heard stories (none of which that I can prove are true) of various methods that have been used from having veto competition games which favor the skillsets of a person nominated for eviction that the producers want to have remain in the house to production staff actively trying to change who people are voting to evict during diary sessions. Even though I'm not thrilled with some of the methods I have heard stories about, I totally understand why things like this would happen to keep up the ratings on the broadcast shows.
The season I think the overall winner of the show was chosen in advance and events were manipulated to see that that person won, I'm not going to discuss because I have no proof and don't want to accidentally slander anyone. However I will say that at the time I was concerned enough to contact the FCC to learn what, if any, rules there were regarding keeping the outcomes of reality competition shows honest. (I was surprised to learn that unlike gameshows, there are no FCC regulations regarding the honest outcome of any reality show.)

Re: The Alphas
I can see your point, but there have been seasons where the people causing the most conflict have been voted out, if not very early then at least a few weeks before the end , leaving less controversial people to win. Of course in S8 the most controversial player, Evil Dick, went all the way and won. But in S12 Jordan, who is best described as "bland", went all the way and won. Of course she was "America's Sweetheart" and got the most fan votes whenever those opportunities came up.
Trying to influence them in the diary room sessions would be undetectable, true, but they would be taking a chance in not having the players spill the beans to other players.
Tonight's vote is uncontroversial, not just because it's the first one, but because the two on the block are "middle-of-the-roaders" on the scale of controversial-to-bland.
I'm not surprised that there are no FCC regs concerning reality shows. It would be almost impossible to monitor or prove anything.

Re: The Alphas
Saw this week's Alpha's. I'm lukewarm about it. I think they were over-explaining how their powers work this week. Just let me see you lift a heavy car, I don't want to see the cool inner body workings of every single person with a Super Ability.

Re: The Alphas
Alphas cancelled. It had 2 years. Apparently the downer cliff-hanger for season 2 (which is going to be the last seen) is aggravating for fans.
