The Banshee Chapter
‘Banshee Chapter’ To Film In Albuquerque, Socorro
By Adrian Gomez / Journal Staff Writer on Sat, Aug 20, 2011
Sometimes horror movies and New Mexico go hand in hand.
The coming independent film “The Banshee Chapter” will start production at the end of August until mid-September in and around Albuquerque and Socorro.
Nick Maniatis, director of the New Mexico Film Office, said at least 35 New Mexico crew members and more than 20 principal and background talent will be used for the film.
The movie is being produced by Before The Door Pictures, which is owned by Zachary Quinto, Corey Moosa and Neal Dodson.
“The Banshee Chapter” centers on a young, female journalist who follows the mysterious trail of a missing friend who had been experimenting with mind-altering chemicals developed in secret government drug tests.
According to the film office, the movie is a fast-paced blend of fact and fiction: It’s based on real documents — actual test subjects’ testimony and uncovered secrets about programs run by the CIA.
Although there is no word on Quinto starring in the film, he is best known as Sylar on the TV show “Heroes” and as Spock in J.J. Abrams’ rebooted “Star Trek.”
The film is to be written and directed by Blair Erickson, who is making his feature film debut.
Before The Door Pictures premiered its debut film, “Margin Call,” at Sundance Film Festival in Utah in January. The studio is also working on an untitled romantic comedy.
” ‘The Banshee Chapter’ is an opportunity for us to tackle another film with its roots in reality, but through the lens of horror,” Quinto said via a website statement.
