Foo Fighters frontman takes hiatus
The Foo Fighters leader, Dave Grohl announced that he was taking a break from music to focus on directing "Sound City", the documentary about the little-known Van Nuys studio where he recorded "Nevermind" with Nirvana in the early 90's. The film is being distributed by Roswell Films, a division of the Foo fighters label Roswell Records and plans are to release it in the first quarter of 2013.

Re: Foo Fighters frontman takes hiatus
While I know nothing of him or his band, the name Foo Fighters comes from WWII. Pilots flying over Europe would occasionally see glowing balls of static electricity on their wings, not affected by the airflow. Little was known or understood of the phenomena then or even today. It has been shown that the conditions have to be exactly right for them to form and there have been a few sightings of what is considered to be the same phenomena forming on fence posts. Anyway.....the pilots called them 'Foo Fighters'.

I'd heard of the band. I was thinking that one of their songs was played on Roswell but don't remember which one or when it played.

The idea for the film came when the Sound City owner asked Grohl if he wanted to buy the console used to record "Nevermind" (and other albums including Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours", Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Damn the Torpedoes" and Neil Young's "After the Goldrush". ) When Grohl went down to pick it up the owner gave him a printout of all the albums recorded there. It was 6-8 pages of small type. Grohl put together a list of those people to interview and it was about 50 people. Grohl plans this to be a documentary and an album. It won't be a soundtrack but a collection of songs that the artists recorded together during the making of the film.
Sounds interesting to me!
