Elysium

I had to watch the trailer several times but it seems that Elysium is a "ring" orbiting space station of Earth. How they handle the visuals of this concept will be interesting. I can't think of any other S-F movie that addressed this concept other than the space station in 2001 which was on a much smaller scale.
At first I thought Elysium may be a true "ring world" in the manner of Larry Niven's Ring World novels, which were never made into movies. But those were naturally occurring bodies ( or maybe they were structures created by advanced aliens. It's been too long since I read them...more research. )
