Dominion

A new Sci-fi series has been ordered for Syfy. It stars Anthony Steward Head (Giles from Buffy) and Christopher Egan (also cute) .

I don't recall ever hearing of "Legion" but this new one sounds theologically goofy enough to be worth watching.  

If the Angels are cute.  

Dominion premier is Thursday. Some kind of supernatural fighting involving angels with swords... which sounds like as mentioned above the movie Legion or the last several seasons of Supernatural. The cast seems good: "Christopher Egan (Resident Evil: Extinction), Tom Wisdom (300), Roxanne McKee (Game of Thrones), Alan Dale (Lost), Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Luke Allen-Gale (The Borgias)." And a few others.

I seem to remember this. Not that good. Maybe Dominion will be better.

I'll check it out. Can't pass up any of the apocalyptic themed shows proliferating this summer.   

I know Anthony Head has a villian role and someone who has seen the first show said that he is the reason to watch this.   

Starts tonight along with the new season of Defiance.  My TV guide (newspaper) shows 4 hours total between them !  

Oh, I see.....they're showing the pilot twice.....it's 1 1/2 hr.

So Dominion was okay. Didn't grab me hard but I'll probably tune in for awhile and see how it goes.

At the end one word came to mind....."goofy". During the show several names of related concepts/shows/movies came to mind: Resident Evil, Starship Troopers, The Stand, Battlestar Galactica/Caprica, Ironman, Game of Thrones, etc.

While we realize that a "willing suspension of disbelief" is necessary to enjoy almost any S-F or fantasy show, this one roams far afield with crazy pseudo-theological concepts that don't fit into any easily identified genre. The pseudo-Islamists are a weird touch too. If the "bad angels" didn't wear red, armored suits and swords and knives weren't the preferred weapons in what is apparently sometime in the future...then that would be a step toward making this thing "believable" within the w-s-of- b.  

Yeah it seemed a bit clumsily put together trying to tie the old movie into the new series. And they also seemed to throw a lot of stuff into the first episode with forbidden love, class or status conflict, power struggles, the rogue soldier, their political system, the human commoner savior, oh yeah and the good vs. bad angles. Why do the bad angels hate humans?    Anyway I do hope for some improvement in the story arc and character development. One more thing... I wish they would have let ASH keep his British accent. They allow the Canadians to keep their accent/pronunciations on the other Syfy series.

I did tune in for a few minutes. Sad to say I would love to see Anthony Head in a major role in a series. Just not this one.

It was the accent, wasn't it. So hard to get used to. He does it fairly well but there are just some really flat A's you hear once in a while that are so jarring to my ear. Would it have really hurt to have had a British accent for his character?

It was officially renewed for another season today.

Never was able to "grasp" it, but better a renewal than a cancellation.
