Friends With Better Lives
How about this for a sitcom plot ?.....
1. A group of 30-somethings sit around in their apt. and tell juvenile sex jokes to each other.
2. Later they all go to parties and drink wine and tell....(see #1.)
3. During #1 and 2 a canned laugh track intrudes when someone thinks the juvenile sex jokes are funny enough to elicit laughter. The viewing audience doesn't agree.
Okay, how original is all that ? Will this thing last a whole season ? Majandra deserves better in her return to series TV as does Brooklyn Decker in her first foray into acting. Red underwear is nice but she can't be expected to carry the whole show.

Re: Friends With Better Lives
I was so disappointed. I went into shock right at the beginning when I saw that contraption on Majandra. Why would she allow that? Did she think it would be funny? "What's up with lefty?" Really? I haven't seen who the writers are but I may just send the executives of the show my writing resume. As scant as it is, I can still do a better job. This is just sad.
Re: Friends With Better Lives
When I was watching Modern Family last night and managed to catch the three very brief, 'inside jokes' that went by so fast that you hardly realized what they were, before laughing, and appreciating the genius of the MF writers, I couldn't help compare FWBL and note how far it is away from real comedy. If it survives the whole season I'll be surprised....

It didn't survive 5 minutes here. Delete and cancel the recordings.

Re: Friends With Better Lives
They are running Brooklyn Decker around the talk shows now to plug it. Haven't seen the ratings but that usually signals trouble when done after a show has already started. Of course Brooklyn is the highest profile name on there, or at least the one that the maximum number of fan boys would care to watch on talk shows.

Re: Friends With Better Lives
I watched this, again, for a few minutes during DWTS commercials to see if it had 'improved'. Good grief ! It was downright embarrassing even for viewers like me who can sit through anything on GOT, Shameless, BB, etc., without batting an eye.
I actually feel bad for Majandra. Why/how she signed up for this ?....surely she saw a few scripts ....
Van Der Beek, and the guy from Entourage, I can see them taking the chance based on past experiences, even though these roles plummet them to the bottom of their careers, and Brooklyn being more naive about such things maybe thought that her first foray into acting would be better than this ? But my gosh...

Re: Friends With Better Lives
Unfortunately, this seems to be doing pretty well in the ratings...just slightly less than Bones. Go figure?

Re: Friends With Better Lives
Poor Brooklyn is being run all over the place...talk-show-wise. Last night she was on Ferguson. The clips they show with her in them are never the "bad" ones. At least she tells funny stories about her husband (Andy Roddick pro tennis player) trying to teach her tennis. She threw a fit and destroyed the racket.....

Re: Friends With Better Lives
I thought I'd try watching FWBL again, latest ep online. Made it 45 seconds until I remembered I wasn't 14 anymore..
Two Broke Girls is high drama compared to FWBL.

Re: Friends With Better Lives
I tried the last two eps to see if anything has changed. They are running out of 12 year old sex jokes and even go several minutes at a time without sexual innuendos. Poor Majandra has been wearing that massive pregnancy prosthesis all season looking like she's ready to give birth to quadruplets any minute. Finally in the latest ep she did give birth, to just one. She will be glad to be able to move and sit normally again. Meanwhile Brooklyn is the designated "wearer of the sexiest clothes" actress which I suppose is logical given all aspects of their appearance.
Will I watch any more ? Depends on how desperate I get waiting for new shows to start and/or watching repeats of other shows.

CBS has pulled the remaining shows. It will be replaced by reruns of "Mom" .

Re: Friends With Better Lives
So....I won't have to worry about "desperation". Not surprising that it didn't make it a full season. It had some good actors wasted in silly roles. Too bad that Brooklyn's first acting gig didn't pan out. I won't be watching "Mom", haven't yet.....
