The trailers I saw on TV looked like they were using chemical reaction engines on the space ship. Those wouldn't have even gotten them out of the Solar System in most of a lifetime. But in this longer trailer it looks like they have some sort of hyperdrive or use worm holes so it's on my viewing list.

Looks like it's making an impression. This crowd wouldn't know their elbow from a wormhole, which is an entirely theoretical concept and lines like ".. humanity chokes on a dying earth."...suggests propagandistic motives, but I'll still see it. Prometheus was similar but I saw that too....

Re: Interstellar
I decided to splurge and see it in IMAX. Although the sound effects and vibration through the floor, into your seat, and into your gut when the rocket takes off is entertaining, otherwise I don't think the extra cost of IMAX is worth it.
I have mixed feelings about the movie itself. When dealing with theoretical concepts such as wormholes, time dilation, trying to provide a visual depiction of a black hole, etc. it can lead to some ambiguity to put it mildly which is what happens here, especially at the end. Overlooking that, it is certainly visually stunning. Aside from the above mentioned factors, there was one seemingly straightforward scene that didn't seem right given what we know about earthly 'hydrodynamics'.
The scene where they land on the planet which is entirely water-covered. They get out of the ship and the water is only knee deep. Yet somehow a monster wave, hundreds of feet high can travel across that shallow water for an indefinite distance without "breaking". That isn't how waves behave.....

Re: Interstellar
Craig and I haven't seen this yet but we want to. There is a juicy bit of news in regards to the writing of this movie but for legal reasons I can't share it. Yes, I'm wanting to see the movie so that I can verify that what I heard wasn't just hype. At any rate, I'm hoping it's still showing close by. Maybe we will get to see it this weekend.
Re: Interstellar
All in all, while a good movie, I don't think it will have nearly the influence that 2001:A Space Odyssey did ~45 years ago and ongoing...
