I just saw a trailer , hadn't heard of it. Mostly CGI of course but looks pretty good. Yet another entrant in "This summer of our S-F movies"...it may seem that disaster movies aren't S-F but they do present 'what if' scenarios so that qualifies as S-F.

Re: San Andreas
I like disaster movies better when they happen somewhere that I don't know anyone. I know if I saw this all I'd be thinking is "Space Pilot...Covina Guy....Oh noes!"

I'm going to see it, maybe this weekend. But after reading that review I see one potential problem.....the helicopter that he's flying doesn't have enough range without refueling to fly from LA to SF with a safe reserve, especially after flying around LA and rescuing his wife, etc.
This is the type of helicopter that the LAFD uses:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_412
With a range of 400-450 miles it could just barely make it from LA to SF, about 340-350 miles by air, if it started with full tanks and didn't do any flying around before setting out for SF, which is not the case in the movie. Incidentally, the FAA reg. # on his heli, N501FD is fictitious according to the FAA reg. look-up site. Apparently they didn't want to associate the movie heli with any "real" one. I love doing this sort of research....

Re: San Andreas
Looks like a big blockbuster disaster film. I think I'll wait on this one until it reaches the pay channels. These always seem to involve ridiculous global warming nonsense. I have grown weary of such things.

Re: San Andreas
Ditto. That's one of the things that I didn't like about Tomorrowland. I'm seeing SA on Saturday so will let you know. There are some critiques online from seismologists that I haven't read yet, but if they work climate change into the cause that will be ridiculous.

As disaster flicks go this is a good one. Johnson "plays it straight" rather than a 'beef cake' type. I have seen this woman's name as a talk show guest but never watched her....I regret that now. Her eyes are like lasers....

She spells her last name a little differently so I suppose she's not related to the D'Addario musical strings mfg. that I use on my banjos and mandolins.
