I have a feeling that this won't last more than one season, if that. It's a rehash of the original mythology and can't/won't find new ground to 'plow'. Just because it's a woman, and also follows the Big Bang, doesn't guarantee success. We'll see.....

Re: Supergirl
I liked it. Little bit of revisionist history but cute actress in the lead and I remember her from Glee.

Re: Supergirl
Looks like I was too pessimistic. It had great ratings. The actress is well cast and does a good job in an iconic 'mythological' role and they bring in the whole mythology in an accurate and entertaining way. So of course she has to have a nemesis in the form of other aliens from Krypton, in this case convicts rather than the competing 'families' from the movies.
Chyler Leigh as her sister is a good addition, one reason I watched Greys Anatomy back in the day when she was on it....along with Lauren Stamile.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0821836/?ref_=fn_nm_nm_1
And Helen Slater as her mother. She played the original Supergirl on TV which didn't last long..

Of course there are still the unanswered physics questions; just because the "yellow sun" of Earth gives her, and Superman, great strength doesn't explain the actual 'power source' that enables them to lift planes, etc. without a structure to brace themselves against. But at least they showed how her grip on the bottom of the fuselage actually sank into the structure. But if there were enough force applied to sustain the plane in such a small area, regardless of its origin, it would actually rip out the bottom of the structure......but then that's what geek viewers are for....to point out such things......

I don't agree that Superman should never be mentioned or that Supergirl should exist in an entirely different "universe" where Superman never came to Earth. That would be silly, the entire mythology exists in one 'package' and can't be changed. But one thing that does bother me is that the show veers too close to a "kiddy-ish" tone many times. I realize that she's supposed to be a role model for young girls and it is on ABC which dictates pretty strict standards, or maybe I'm too 'jaded' with a steady diet of AMC, FX, HBO, Showtime, etc.
