We could say that this is similar to Wynnona Earp on SyFy in that they both take place in the west and involve supernatural elements. But I'm pretty sure that the similarities end there. I'll check it out of course.

If the cast and creators can't quite explain it, and all the characters are "plagued with sin, perversity, and secrets", then it sounds like my kind of show !
The trailer sure looks "fun".

It will be interesting to see where the outdoor scenes were filmed.

I don't recognize where that church could be, I'm guessing out east..

For the critics to say that this could rival The Walking Dead in popularity is somewhat of a stretch at this early point. It is very entertaining with the requisite cast of brutal lunatics. But it doesn't have enough appealing cast members to equal TWD, at least not yet, and the premise doesn't seem to lend itself to acquiring more since they are 'stuck' in that small 'Texas' area and can't travel around picking up more characters as they can on TWD.

The scene in the church with the chainsaw was really something ! You can't make this stuff up ! Well, actually they did, maybe it was in comics, but still.......how they recovered from their dismemberment is mysterious......

Re: Preacher
Oh, I find the cast to be very intriguing. Love the preacher, love the girl friend from his past and the vampire...oh, my. I have got to find out what happens next with these guys! I like it better than TWD so far.

Re: Preacher
I'm going to try to find out where in NM the outdoor scenes are filmed, around the church, which I assume is real, not CGI. The terrain looks like out east nearer the TX border.

The 'daily filming locations' is handy, haven't found any specific outdoor locations for Preacher yet, other than Albq. Studios which are the indoor sets.

If there are 8,000 sites listed here, I won't be looking at all of them ! Here's one page...

The "weirdness" didn't exactly bother me. I assumed that they had followed the comic book more closely and if I wanted more explanations I would have to read the comics. That's par for the course for these types of comic based shows. But he's right in that Jesse should be a more central figure and provide a 'base' for introductions to the other plot points and characters.
TWD did it better in that regard by having Rick Grimes wake up from his coma, all alone, and gradually showing his new apocalyptic environment and gradually meeting new characters.
