So this is the day that we get to see Jozea say bye-bye and not a moment too soon. two thumbs up

Depending on the definition of "shocking surprise", it could either be important or just publicity. The possibility of an early bootee coming back is feasible, most fans would like to see Glenn come back, no one would want Jozea to come back.

Thursday is the first live eviction of Big Brother 18 and while the result may not be much of a surprise, something else will be. All signs point to Jozea being evicted, potentially with a blindside, which should create some fireworks. But the new CBS promo for the episode also promises that Julie Chen will deliver a "shocking surprise."

What does this mean? Well, the Internet is already abuzz with speculation, whether it's based on earlier rumors or speculation inside the house. Here are the top guesses.

A Pre-Jury Evicted HG Will Return

The most likely surprise is that one of the first 3-5 HGs who get evicted will get the chance to re-enter the game. For the past three seasons the show has used a competition to let one of the first four jury members come back, but this year may be different. In seasons 3, 6, 9 and 13, one of the first HGs evicted got to come back, either through a public vote or a competition (or both).

The last time it happened was a season that also included returning players, so it's possible that the producers added this twist so that, if one of the fan favorites got out early, they'd have a chance to return. Adding more fuel to this speculation is that Glenn's exit interviews were done by e-mail and he hasn't been spotted since his eviction, even though early eviction interviews are typically done by phone or in person and the HGs quickly emerge on social media.

Even the HGs inside the house are suspicious. Da'Vonne in particular has theorized about someone returning early in the season, which has led to her deciding to record a nice goodbye message for Jozea as opposed to saying what she really wanted to say. So it's possible that Julie's shocking surprise will be informing Jozea that he might get a second chance in the game.

No Vote Counts

For some reason, this has been a rumor circulating online for a while now, that Julie will not be reading the actual vote count during the live eviction. So instead of saying "By a vote of 7 to 4," she'd just announce who got evicted. In theory, this could help prevent the recent trend of house voting, with most people scared to go against the majority. If no one will find out that you didn't vote with the house, people might be more willing to do it.

Unfortunately, this twist would also hurt paranoia. Some of the best moments of crazy scheming come when there's one vote no one can account for and the HGs go nuts trying to figure out who voted for who. I suppose they could still speculate, but this twist would make a blindside easier to cover-up and it wouldn't be very shocking for viewers.

A New Houseguest

OK, this is a longshot, but maybe the HGs will get another player in the game. I'm still concerned about the 99-day season because there are only 16 HGs and one got evicted on the second night. If they do two double evictions and even if there is a returning player, there's still one extra week that they need to fill. In theory they could do a reset when they disband the teams or a rewind like in season 16 or even have a second player return to the game after being evicted (one pre-jury and one post-jury), but those seem a tad dull.

A secret 17th HG would be a different wrinkle, though I can't imagine  they've had someone in sequester for this long waiting to come in after everyone else had two weeks. Let's just hope Corey doesn't have a twin.

The Brenchel Baby

This wouldn't be all that shocking or a surprise, but Rachel Reilly and her husband Brendan had their first child about three months ago, so I have no doubt that at some point this season, we'll get an interview with them and footage of the first Big Brother baby. I wouldn't put it past the show to count this as a "shocking surprise."

What do you think the shocking surprise will be? Is someone coming back or will yet another new twist be added to the game? Big Brother 18 airs Thursday at 9pm.

Jozea is without a doubt the biggest combination of lunatic ego, total cluelessness, and fantasy world dweller that has ever been on Big Brother. While these "qualities" are somewhat revealed on the CBS shows, it is on the live feeds where we see his ongoing mental pathology. Fascinating yet sad at the same time. The producers scored a 'coup' this time in casting him but without even knowing it at the time.

The game is getting back to normal after a premiere that featured four competitions and an eviction followed by the new Road Kill. The Wednesday episodes of Big Brother 18 are still all about the Power of Veto competition and whether one of the three nominees can save himself (because, for the first time ever, there are three men currently sitting on the nomination couch).

More importantly, we have Jozea in the house (at least until tomorrow). And if you thought he couldn't get any more delusional, this entire episode shows how he thinks he knows everything, but he really knows nothing. Move over season 16's Devin, because Jozea is now the worst player of all-time and the editors make a point of showing us why throughout the whole episode.

Previously on Big Brother 18: Nicole is not a kisser butter.

You Know Nothing, Jozea

After Paul was nominated, Jozea quickly figured out that Michelle is the one who did it because she didn't look up during the Road Kill ceremony. Of course we know he's dead wrong because it was Frank. Jozea brags to his team (Victor, Paul, Bronte and Natalie) about his brilliant deduction. However, everyone in the 8Pack knows Frank won it, so they just sit quietly and laugh to themselves about how clueless Jozea is.

Jozea is confident he controls the entire house and he wants to make sure Paulie gets evicted because he's related to a veteran player. Paul is worried that Bridgette is too close to Paulie, making him not trust her. Bronte and Natalie confer and decide that the Spy Girls have to stick with the dumb boys (Jozea, Victor and Paul) for now, but turn on them when they all get to the Final 6. The only problem is that Bronte really, really, really loves looking at Paulie's perfect butt.

Later, Jozea recruits Frank to be a part of his group and in one conversation Jozea refers to himself as a CEO, the glue and the Messiah. He believes he knows exactly what everyone in the house is thinking because he observes. Frank, and all of us, just sit back and laugh.

The Power of Veto Competition

Da'Vonne and Corey are picked to play, which makes 8Pack happy. The  players are dressed like dogs and Corey makes Nicole's tail wag. They must stack 40 dog bones after spinning around 15 times, but they only have 45 seconds and must run back to hit a button before the time runs out or they're eliminated.

Nicole and Corey get very dizzy and fall all over. Da'Vonne structure collapses and Jozea is overly confident. But Paul has the best strategy, wedging a bunch of bones between the two poles and then just throwing all the other bones on top once he has a stable base.

Paul wins the Power of Veto!

It's interesting that they did a competition so similar to the sand castle stacking one from the first night. A lot of these competitions seem to involve some type of balancing component.

Pranks and Siblings

James is still up to his old pranks, this time bringing in Corey, Paulie and Frank to help him put shaving cream on the hand and beard of a sleeping Paul.

Speaking of rehashing things from last season, Tiffany tells Paulie that she's Vanessa's sister in order to earn his trust down the road since they're both siblings of former players.

Jozea's House Meeting

Jozea decides to call a house meeting to discuss his plan to evict Paulie. He invites Victor, Paul, Da'Vonne, Zakiyah and the Spy Girls. Da'Vonne gets Zakiyah and, in the process, informs her whole alliance about it because they all know it's a big joke. James sees it happening and follows inside. The Spy Girls ask Bridgette to skip the meeting and go upstairs to spy on Nicole in the HoH room.

Jozea's "secret" house meeting that EVERYONE knows about takes place and it's one of the funniest moments in the show's history. He's wearing his dog costume from the PoV competition and compares himself to Obama while telling everyone that they need to vote out Paulie and stay one big happy family. James, Da'Vonne and Zakiyah bite their tongues and the fact that they don't laugh in his face is impressive.

As if that's not bad enough, Bronte tells everyone that Bridgette is upstairs spying for them, which isn't very stealthy. And Bridgette is a bad double agent because she seems genuinely annoyed with Jozea's delusions.

After the meeting, Paulie confronts Jozea about it and he denies throwing Paulie under the bus while gloating about calling as many house meetings as he wants.

The Power of Veto Ceremony

Since so many people have immunity this week, Frank, Da'Vonne, Zakiyah, Bridgette and Michelle are the only HGs eligible to replace Paul. This makes Bridgette freak out, but she'd probably be even more worried if she knew Frank won Road Kill and he's in an alliance with Da'Vonne, Zakiyah and Michelle. Bridgette is the only option.

Bridgette is secretly nominated by Frank.

Jozea looks shocked. Wait, something happened in the house that he didn't know about? But he's the all-knowing Obama Messiah! The episode ends with Jozea certain he's staying while the majority knows otherwise.

All of this may be a little overblown. Bronte is under serious consideration to be the next one on the block for eviction. If this plays out then the source of the controversy will be gone. Also, for the producers to now go back and play her remarks 'live' on the CBS show would be somewhat pandering for ratings/controversy. Aaryn stuck around for quite awhile in S15, keeping the controversy going. But if Bronte leaves early then that aspect will fade quickly.

Why CBS Needs to Air the Racist Comments from the Houseguests of 'Big Brother 18'

As we detailed earlier the Big Brother 18 house has already come into a bit of controversy. The live feeds for Big Brother 18 have caught the houseguests saying some pretty offensive things and Twitter has already reacted strongly. None of these comments, short of the houseguests calling women "bitches," have made it to air on CBS, but this should change. Here are 3 reasons why CBS should air some, if not all, of the houseguests' off-color remarks.

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains Big Brother 18 spoilers from the live feeds.

One of the big incidents of offensive language revolved around the Asian-American houseguest and returning player, James. Apparently, although it was not caught on the live feeds, James spread a lie about Victor asking Nicole out on a date. At least that is what Victor and his allies believe James did. Alone this is a pretty annoying and bizarre thing that only really bored people would use to get angry. The incident spiraled out of control, however, when some of the houseguests, mainly Paul and Bronte, used the opportunity to call James several racial slurs.

4 Reasons Jozea Needs to be Evicted from the Big Brother 18 House >>>

This is compounded by the fact that Jozea, easily the most hated houseguest in the Big Brother 18 house, has been firmly of the opinion that Da'Vonne and Zakiyah love him similarly because they share a similar racial background. None of this is true and in fact Da'Vonne and Zakiyah are two of the strongest supporters for getting rid of Jozea. After the racial controversy on Big Brother 15, Big Brother probably doesn't want to dive back into the racist well, but these comments should be aired.

Not Airing Would Be Akin to Condoning It

This is the big one. If CBS chose to not air these comments, particularly the ones about James, it could be seen as condoning it. Obviously CBS and Big Brother need to edit a story together out of tons of footage to create a cohesive narrative for their episode airings. Not every conversation and aspect of the houseguests' lives is going to make it the weekly episodes. Big Brother 18 has to cover all the strategy and gameplay of the houseguests' lives before they can dive into what they do and say day-to-day and minute-to-minute. There is a lot of gameplay going on specifically in these first couple of weeks. There is not a lot of room for downtime.

However, the fight between James and Victor's allies can easily fit into the show's ongoing narrative of new players versus veterans. The source of the argument itself is inane but the comments underline a very serious issue. Big Brother shouldn't just let the houseguests save face because it doesn't fit the narrative of that week's episode, especially when there is such an easy "in."

If Big Brother doesn't air the comments that suggests that they are not important and that is just wrong. The houseguests should be held culpable for their actions. Suggesting that these awful things are not important is very close to saying they are acceptable. Offensive, racial comments should never be acceptable to anyone.

America Needs to See the "True" Houseguests

The viewers of the live feeds, which are a premium, paid-for service, have a certain privilege over other Big Brother 18 viewers. They get to see the houseguests with very little interference from the producers. There is no editing involved, the footage is unfiltered and it is certainly not juxtaposed with interviews from the Diary Room of the houseguests explaining what is really going on in a conversation. The live feeds are very different from a televised episode.  .....So the 'moral' of that story is that if viewers what to see the totality of what  goes on, then get the live feeds !!  It's a no-brainer.

Are There Any Showmances on Big Brother 18? >>>

It's the most organic representation of the Big Brother 18 house. It can't be 100% true because the houseguests know they are still being filmed but it is as close as viewers are going to find. This is other good reason for Big Brother to air the racist comments on TV, especially when it comes to certain houseguests like Bronte.

Bronte has presented herself as squeaky clean and adorable in her stay in the Big Brother 18 house. Bronte wants to look like the innocent schoolteacher and sweetheart. She certainly plays up that image in the Diary Room but Bronte's comments about James spotlight another side. Big Brother 18 viewers don't need more reasons to dislike players like Paul or Jozea but the live feeds expose Bronte's public and private image as two separate entities. All Big Brother fans should know exactly what Bronte is saying in the house and not just when she is in front of the Diary Room camera.

The same thing applies to people like Corey, who hasn't exactly said racist things but has been offensive in his own ways. Corey, right now, is being presented as one of the good guys in Big Brother 18. He is situated as a nice guy and on America's favored side of the house. America should be able to see all sides of Corey and not just the side that aligns with the houseguests that America, overall, enjoys.

The Houseguests Shouldn't Get Away with It

The implication of CBS not airing the racist comments is that they are condoning them. Really, though, that's just conjecture and supposition. It might feel that way but there could be a number of reasons why Big Brother didn't air the comments and it has nothing to do with the feelings of the people actually producing and creating the show. The one thing that can't be denied is that if Big Brother doesn't air the comments the houseguests get off relatively free.

Did Big Brother 18 Break the Game with BB Road Kill? >>>

A very small section of the Big Brother audience actually watches the live feeds and an even smaller section reads spoilers about the live feeds. The televised viewers are the biggest part of Big Brother 18's audience. If the racist comments are not aired on TV, the majority of the Big Brother 18 watchers will have no idea that the houseguests said anything remotely questionable. No matter how offensive they were in the house, most of America will never know. The houseguests enter an agreement when they walk into the house that anything they say or do can be televised. It makes them responsible for their actions and words. They should be held to that responsibility.

In Big Brother 15 with Aaryn we saw that the things people say inside the house can affect their lives outside. Aaryn did not get a favorable reaction from America because of the things she said inside her Big Brother house. While that seems harsh, it's not like she didn't deserve it. Aaryn said things that offended people, and no one forced her to say rude, racist and awful things. Similarly, no one is making Bronte, Corey and Jozea come off badly. They simply are coming off badly. Twitter might be upset about the comments but all of America has a right to make a decision about the houseguests' comments.

But what do you think? Should CBS air the racist comments? What do you want to see happen? Do you think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion?

Big Brother 18 airs Sundays and Wednesdays at 8pm and Thursdays at 9pm on CBS.

Still no real clues as to what the 'surprise' is. scratch

“Shocking Surprise”
By: Matthew Boyer | June 30, 2016 at 2:15 PM EDT

1
CBS has announced that Julie Chen will deliver a “shocking surprise” during tonight’s episode of Big Brother 18 where three Houseguests are facing eviction that will send one of the out the door.
BB day 15 Big-brother-julie-chen-foth-00-560x325
So what could be going on with this “surprise” and just how “shocking” could it be? We won’t know for certain until after 9/8c tonight, but there seem to be a few likely scenarios.
Since before the season started I’ve been predicting one of the first evictees of the season to get a chance at returning to the game. We saw this in Big Brother 13 when Brendon won his way in over Lawon so this wouldn’t be out of BB possibilities. It might be a little early to announce this in the first live show, but it’s also the second elimination already.
Another possibility is the rumor from preseason that Julie Chen wouldn’t announce the actual vote count this season. This would cut down on HGs’ fear of retribution for not sticking to the plan and would also eliminate the function of a hinky vote. I actually like the hinky vote, but freeing up HGs to vote how they want would be nice as well. Everyone outside the house would know how the vote went, so we wouldn’t miss out on the info but it’d certainly get a mystery going inside and that’s what we want, right? Maybe.
Then there’s speculation that other former HGs could be joining the game. Well that’s a new one to me and I think it’s a terrible idea considering those HGs have already been at it for more than two weeks in there. This rumor seems to be based off Donny posting a picture of the foyer luggage and saying “more things to come.” Ugh. I hope they don’t do that no matter who it is.
Don’t forget that Grodner, BB exec producer, teased that we should expect the return of Pandora’s room this season (the room, not the Box twist). I thought we’d see that in conjunction with the returning Vets, but they’re here and the room isn’t. Maybe we’ve got a new twist being added on that will play out in that room.
Of course the most likely surprise is the obvious one. Jozea will be announced as the new host of Big Brother when he exits the house tonight. He will then immediately take over for Julie Chen and declare himself the winner, thereby ending Big Brother 18. I just don’t see any other way for this to go, right? roflmao roflmao roflmao
What do you think the “Shocking Surprise” will be when Julie Chen makes the announcement tonight on Big Brother 18? We’ll be back here for the live show at 9PM ET so join us then for our spoilers, results, and complete coverage!

In the HOH comp. tonight, Paulie won. He's on Franks team so that means that he, Frank, Michelle, and Bridgette are safe from being nominated for eviction next week. Frank will announce his choices for eviction this weekend. It is expected to be Paul, Victor, or Bronte.

Meanwhile Julie announced the "surprising" twist. There will be a "Battle Back" comp each week between the evicted HGs. This adds another level of complexity, just the way we like it.  It works like this:

Glenn was the first to be evicted last week. We'll call him "A".  Jozea was evicted tonight, we'll call him "B"

A and B will battle in a comp.We don't know yet what day that will be but it will have to be before next Thursday's eviction. We'll call that evictee "C". The winner of A/B will battle C.  The winner of that will battle "D" the following weeks evictee. The winner of A/B/C or D will battle "E" the following weeks evictee. That will take them up to July 22nd. So there will be a special Friday show on the 22nd showing the final winner who will then come back into the house.  Only the CBS show viewers will have to wait until the 22nd to see the winner but on the live feeds we will be able to see the week to week results and know who will be the final two competitors on the 22nd.

Everyone is of course praying that Jozea doesn't make it all the way through the 4 comps which isn't likely given the HGs he's likely to come up against. It is likely that he'll win the comp with Glenn but after that....? scratch

Big Brother 18 began with four competitions in the two-night premiere and now there are even more comps being added to the game. Julie Chen announced the new Battle Back twist, which will allow one of the first four evicted HGs the opportunity to win their way back into the game.

Like Redemption Island on Survivor or Last Chance Kitchen on Top Chef, the first two evicted HGs will face off in the new competition, with the loser going home and the winner moving on to next week where they'll face the third evicted HG. That will continue until five HGs have been evicted, and the winner of that fourth Battle Back competition will come back into the game.

In the first round, Glenn and Jozea will battle, with the winner advancing to next week to compete against the third evicted HG. That will continue with the first five evicted HGs, with the fifth person getting evicted on Thursday, July 21.

All of the Battle Back competitions, along with the final winner returning to the house, will air on a special Friday night episode July 22, the day after the fifth person is evicted.

It's unclear if the returning HG will be immune for a week or if they'll be able to participate in that week's HoH competition. If it's the second, then the final Battle Back competition will have to take place before they play the HoH.

This new twist benefits the HGs better at competitions, and whoever gets evicted fifth will only need to win one to go right back in while Jozea or Glenn would need to win four times. It's certainly an interesting way to decide who returns to the game and definitely better than America voting.

How do you feel about the Battle Back? Who do you want to win the first round? And be sure to see all of these competitions Friday, July 22 on a special episode of Big Brother 18.
