MacGyver
I'm going to have to watch a couple of more eps before I can critique. After just one it seems a little formulaic and a Swiss Army knife seems to be his most useful tool. But of course there was one big 'gotcha' involving a car, wouldn't you know it. In the opening scene where Mac arrives at the big party in Italy, he drives up in a Mercedes 300SL Gull Wing. Those cars have been selling at auction for quite awhile for 7 figures. So where did he get the money to afford it and if the 'organization' paid for it, what do they think of him running off after completing the 'mission' and leaving it behind ?......just a thought.

I remember the first time I saw a 300SL. I was in high school in Sarasota, it was during the winter, probably late '54. They had an annual car show on Lido Key. Of course I went to it. A guy in NYC had bought one of the first 300SLs to be sold in the U.S. He drove it down to FL and put it in the show. He didn't drive it himself, since he was too fat to fit behind the wheel so he hired a driver. He boasted how they hit 100 mph at 4,000 rpm on the NJ Turnpike, coming down to FL. I was impressed.
Years later, living in CA, the 300SL was always a top exhibit at the Concours there. Don Ricardo, the band leader, always exhibited his.
Mac's 300SL was probably a later model, '56 or '57 because it had red leather seats. The later models had red or blue leather seats. The earlier models had blue and grey plaid cloth seats. The steering wheel was hinged at the bottom so that the bottom could swing forward and allow enough room for the driver to get his legs clear to get in and out. The tubular chassis caused the high 'sill' along the side. A woman getting in/out while wearing a short skirt was always an occasion for 'viewers' to gather, although it was done mainly by starlets for publicity purposes.

Re: MacGyver
I'm not saying I don't like the show. But, to me, this wasn't a remake of the MacGuver character. This looks more like a Tom Cruise Mission Impossible thing. This guy MacGuyver's things, but he ain't the simple unassuming "MacGuyver" of my youth. Who I guess I will continue to miss.

Re: MacGyver
I know what you mean, although the 'old' MacGyver wasn't quite in my 'youth'.....

Re: MacGyver
I went through "on demand" and picked out a few to see if they were worth watching. I spent 10 minutes on McGiver. No, it's not the tv show I loved not by along shot. So, I moved on.
