Swingtown
It premiers tonight, maybe worth watching, what else is there ?
Polly Walker was good in Deadwood so I'll watch for that reason alone. These "period" pieces that purport to portray "how it was", usually are superficial in that regard, but if it can be just another suburban soap opera that's good enough. We don't need to be reminded how we were all wild, sex crazed swingers during the 70's............funny, but I don't remember the 70's quite that way...

Re: Swingtown
Thanks for starting the thread Banjo. My main interest in this show is that Damon Carney who with his wife runs The Tin Cup here in town, has a small part. He plays Bud Green. It's a blink and you'll miss it thing but the funny thing is, I learned from his wife that he's in L.A. right now filming the 11th episode...Now, no one knows if the show would be picked up for the fall but it seems CBS must be trying to give it a shot. Damon doesn't appear in episode's two thru nine. Comes back in episode ten and explains where he's been. In episode eleven he goes into business with one of the main characters. So...I guess we will see...my thing is...they flew him out there last week..and he's still there. GIVE MY BUDDY A BREAK! Seriously, Damon is a very charismic guy and a good actor. So I can't help hoping it works out for him...even though I've read the reviews.... :randy: :glare:
Damon is here.. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2308823/

Neither do I!
Personally, I don't really go for the premise of this series. Just the idea of spouses being "swingers" is a little distasteful to me. But, if there is absolutely nothing else on, I may tune in for an episode??

Re: Swingtown
The identical "hairdos" on all the men really started to annoy me. I know darn well that the barbers in the 70's didn't have to depend on all men getting a haircut once a year.
The children of the various parents are also total losers except maybe for the one teenage girl who seems to have dumped her boyfriend after he pointed out her easy virtue.
There is a certain overall creepiness factor too, no doubt, and that one scene with Polly Walker deciding to try swinging was uncomfortable to watch.
But the hair styles do remind me of one funny thing that I haven't thought about in years....when I was living in CA in the 70's my wife worked in accounting for a small privately owned company of 30-40 people. They made automatic exhaust pipe benders that Midas, etc. uses.
Every Friday afternoon after closing time they would pull down the shades in the offices and have a big pot party, which my wife didn't indulge in but kept worrying that they would be raided and she would be hauled off to jail.
I told her to just leave, what are they going to do, fire her for not participating ?....and then she could explain to the unemployment office why ? So she did and nothing ever came of it. But then they had a company party at the owner's house and I went with her. When we walked in everyone was laughing and drinking and having a good time (I didn't smell any pot smoke), but then the room fell silent and everyone looked at us momentarily; she introduced me and the party resumed. Later I asked her if they said why everyone stopped talking when we walked in. She said that they thought I might be a narc. because I was the only one with hair not down to my shoulders...

Re: Swingtown
I thought the main characters were dull and unteresting. Larry you have the same feelings as my husband Craig...who went to bed. I did get the joy of seeing Damon play totally against who he really is and about laughed my head off. I thought considering what he was in he did good. But, I truthfully don't think we'll see this show past the 3rd episode. Did anybody hear about the numbers? I'll try to look around to see what other boards are saying.

Re: Swingtown

Per Marc Berman at Mediaweek
Swingtown (CBS) – Viewers: 8.58 million (#2), A18-49: 2.8/ 8 (#2) - ratings for the entire hour
The positive news for Swingtown was growth out of the 9:30 p.m. portion
of the CSI encore (Viewers: 9.81 million; A18-49: 2.5/ 7) of 12 percent
in the demo.

Re: Swingtown
Geeez AR ...
If your right, I better catch one of the next 2 episodes! Although according to CG, those aren't bad ratings for an entire hour on a Thursday night. Gulp! :o
I suppose that I should be more open-minded and, at least, see if there is any redeemable value to this show. Me iudice.

Re: Swingtown
Clearly I'm wrong... Wow! No. 2? I'm biased but the "redeemable value" just might be Bud Green. I'm really curious now to see what happens with this.
Thanks CG for answering my question.

Re: Swingtown
He was sitting down and rolling a reafer in the party scene. Then a little later was standing and talking and said he was going to the basement. His last scene was lying in the middle of all those women and he said something to the effect of "Take off your shoes, come join the fun."
We're all having a good laugh here. "Cause the man is so opposite in real life. And everyone I've asked about it says the same thing..."I can't believe he's been making my sandwich all this time." Yes....and they are very good too.

Per Marc Berman:
week two of drama Swingtown (Viewers: #2, 7.25 million; A18-49: #2,
2.3/ 7), which dipped by 1.32 million viewers and 18 percent among
adults 18-49 from its debut one week earlier (Viewers: 8.57 million;
A18-49: 2.8/ 8 on June 5).

Re: Swingtown
Yeah, last night was rather mundane. I don't see this lasting past 1 season, assuming that even all the ones in the can are shown..
Shanna Collins' character is turning out to be the most interesting, and I assumed she was headed toward trouble with her teacher before finding out he's married......not that that will stop them.... She looked familiar, I've seen her on Medium and probably Malcolm in the Middle.

Re: Swingtown
Here's a bad sign.....I fell asleep during the last fifteen minutes....
Damon is back home. He said he had never felt so welcome. The cast is a very nice bunch of people. He's not in another episode for something like 7 weeks. I'm guessing but didn't tell him it will be dead by then. He had a very juicy part, playing a really bad guy that goes into business with one of the main characters. I hope the episodes at least get shown.

He'll probably be able to realize that each part he gets is a bit bigger and better than the last...and he's making great contacts. So, even if this one doesn't go for a long time, it's a great addition to his resume.

I had full intensions of catching Swingtown last night. But, I fell asleep halfway through CSI and went to bed shortly thereafter.

Re: Swingtown
No Banjo it doesn't repeat. Berry you are right. Damon is with the Kim Dawson agency in Dallas. They are huge in Texas but he has interviewed with three major agencies while he was in L.A. So I do think it's just a matter of time.

I am "working" tomorrow. I'm a wedding guest (extra) in an independent movie currently shooting in JAX . It's called "Running through Fires" and I have no idea what it's about yet.

No, I got a glass of water. Some got soda. I tell you the food on the big Hollywood projects is WAY BETTER than the independents.
Though to be fair, I only worked 4 hours yesterday as compared with 10 hours on the bigger projects.
