The Amazing Race season 29

A new twist is that a comp. will determine how they will be paired up as two person teams just before the start. In the past they arrived already having made their pairings, long-time friends, couples, etc.  This time could be interesting if incompatible people  are paired, although in the past even engaged and married couples were the most likely to be constantly bickering. Will the comp. insure that each team is 1 man/1 woman ? If so, this would be another change because in past seasons there have always been all male/all female pairs, the obligatory gays, fashion models, farmers, ex-Harlem Globe Trotters, etc.

One thing is always a constant, they cast the most numerous and best looking women of any reality show. Of course the sheer required physicality and endurance aren't as great as on Survivor, for example, so the fashion models have a better chance, although none have ever won. Looks like just one model this season, but several that should be physical threats.

This created a massive uproar in the social fabric of America !  CBS didn't do a good job of publicizing the time change.  The TV Guide still said Apr. 21 for the premire of course.

My personal trauma was perhaps typical. I watched Colony of course, 8-9 pm, except it ran over about 6 minutes into the 9 pm hour. After it was over I looked around the CBS site using CBS All Access to see if the latest ep of Life in Pieces  might have been put up since I had to miss it because of its 8:30-9:00 time. It hadn't been put up yet, not surprising, but I stumbled on the premire of The Amazing Race, 6-7 minutes in, after they had chosen the teams in L.A. I was confused, was this a repeat of an ep from last season ? I watched as the teams drove to LAX to get the plane to Panama. Who were these people ? I didn't recognize them and the make-up of the teams was very weird. No one would voluntarily pair themselves that way before coming on the show. Then it hit me !....I was seeing the premire of this season ! What the....?....But, but...it was supposed to be Apr 21st !?.....

I recovered my composure enough to watch the rest of the show, regretting miserably that I missed the pairings in the park in L.A.  Luckily CBS has stepped up to their criminal laxity and we can watch the first 7 minutes on line.  Whew !  That was a stressful evening !

This season doesn't have any out and out sociopaths but neither does it have the best-ever female contestant such as Laura Pierson from season 26....

They've got some pretty difficult tasks to complete this season. Not necessarily physical tasks, other than the rock climbing and kitchen utensil making, but "cultural tasks" that require artistic and musical talent. Doesn't seem to be any real standouts that are a shoo-in to win as sometimes happens when the cannon fodder has been booted and fewer teams are left such as the 7 left now.

I'm not sure these were the 'weirdest' challenges, but they certainly weren't the most difficult. This season has some doosies. The one where they had to find a key in a drawer in a room full of cabinets was exhausting to watch. But if the secret to finding the key was discovered it was a snap , but just one team found it quickly.

Every true reality show must eventually have a 'worst winner'. now TAR has one !
