This looks good. There is a common fiction going around that the area is cordoned off for many miles around and no one can enter it for any reason. This is false. There are actually guided tours into the town of Pripiyat where the workers lived. You can go into their schools, apts., playgrounds, amusement park, etc. Each tourist is given a radiation meter and the guides tell them what to watch on the meter and to not linger in the areas where the readings are highest. This happens mostly around metal structures, railings, the play ground equip. etc. Of course they don't go near the reactor building, several miles away.
Mr. and Ms. Caramel from Odessa posted one of their vblogs on You Tube last year, showing their experience on the guided tour. I will look for it and post here.

She titles her posts "Liya Odesskaya" which means 'beautiful Odessa'.
Most recently they were in China and she is , or was then, pregnant with their 3rd child. she looked like she was due any day so it was surprising she would be so far from home in that condition, as here :

To see interesting places all over Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, theirs are the best vblogs. They would like to come to the U.S. but can't get visas.
Here's a bunch of their vblogs.

Re: Chernobyl on HBO
That was a good first ep ! They did a good job in recreating the wreckage and general mayhem and pointed out that while the engineers, techs, firefighters, etc. , were putting their lives on the line to fight the explosion, and suffering radiation poisoning, while the bureaucrats
were safe in their shielded bunkers spouting Communist dogma as a solution.
I guess we'll have to wait until every Sunday night to see the whole series since they're not streaming it.

Re: Chernobyl on HBO
In April of 1986 I was living in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Chernobyl happened so far away. But I remember a day when the newsmen announced that clouds/radiation from the Chernobyl incident were going to be passing over our area. They advised people to stay indoors if they didn't have to be out. I just had the 2 girls at that time and I remember keeping them in all day without telling them why.

Re: Chernobyl on HBO
In '86 I was working here so didn't have to worry about any radiation clouds. I think Sweden saw the worst of it.....if I remember...
That You Tube video that Yulia from Odessa made a year or so ago gives a very stark picture of the fate of the town, school books and drawings, etc. left as they were when the kids and towns people were evacuated. The next episode shows them going to school as if nothing is wrong.....
