The Dark Tower series is coming to theaters and TV
Trav and I are there !!! The rest of you had better get busy reading the 7 books....assuming you haven't already... I can anticipate some difficulty in recreating all the things in the books.....but heck, give it a try.

When books get translated to film, there are fans of the written material that get irritated by plots glossed over during the adaptation, but readers of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower‘ series can breathe a sigh of relief. Universal has agreed to turn the seven novels into a feature film trilogy AND a television series on NBC, all initially directed by Ron Howard, according to EW.com.With more than 30 million books sold, the built-in fan base will get to see King’s epic tale fully realized. “By telling this story across media platforms and over multiple hours — and with a view to telling it completely — we have our best chance at translating Roland’s quest to reach ‘The Dark Tower’ onto screen,” screenwriter Akiva Goldman said.Howard will direct the first film and first season of the series, while his long-time collaborator Brian Grazer will produce the projects for Universal. The initial TV series is set to air between the first and second films theatrical release dates, followed by a second season between films two and three, according to TVGuide.com.King said that he’s positive Akiva’s scripts and Howard’s direction will “translate into an intriguing series of films and TV shows that respect the origins and the characters in ‘The Dark Tower’ that fans have come to love.”“It might be the challenge of a lifetime but clearly a thrilling one to take on and explore,” Howard added.

I'm going to get right on this. Sounds good and I generally like Ron Howard. Not so sure about Stephen King but I'll take your word for it this could be good.

The books were King's best work, imho. I think there was about 20 years between the first one and when he finally finished the 7th. We had quite a time on Goofzilla discussing them and Mia was especially smitten. Trav went to a park in KS....Topeka?.....don't remember... and posted pics of it because it was featured in one of the books.
Some people think J.J. Abrams would make a better director for them than Howard but regardless there's no way they can include all the stuff from the books.
