Fox Moves 'Rise of the Apes' Back to Summer

Back in January, 20th Century Fox shifted the release date of its James Franco-starring Planet of the Apes prequel Rise of the Apesfrom
June to November on the basis that the five extra months were necessary
to complete the complex visual effects. Now, however, the studio has
shifted the release date back to summer, albeit a bit later: apes will
now commence rising on August 5, 2011.
Not to say that the initial visual effects rationale is bunk, but it's more likely that Fox didn't want Apes competing in a crowded June, and felt that Thanksgiving could be the season of the primate takeover. As Germain at Slashfilm theorizes, with Martin Scorsese's first family film, the 3D Hugo Cabret
moving from December to November, Fox probably wanted to find a cozier,
less competitive market for their latest entry in the longstanding
franchise. To compensate, they've moved The Sitter, a comedy directed by David Gordon Green starrring Jonah Hill and Sam Rockwell, from August to December.Rise of the Apes stars James Franco as a scientist who inadvertently triggers the simian takeover of Earth. Supporting Franco are Freida Pinto, Tom Felton, John Lithgow, and Brian Cox. Andy Serkis is portraying the hyper-intelligent ape progenitor Caesar via motion capture, with visual effects provided by Lord of the Rings effects house Weta. Serkis is no stranger to the motion capture process, having played Gollum and King Kong for director Peter Jackson. Rise of the Apes is directed by Rupert Wyatt. So far, we've only seen a single official image
from the film, so if Fox wants to kickstart interest for a late summer
release, they better get a move on it. They've got some work to do,
given the lack of enthusiasm for the last attempt to restart the
franchise with director Tim Burton and star Mark Wahlberg.I know what Charlton Heston would have to say about this shuffle:
title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390"
src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VFCM6TZgTMI" frameborder="0"
all

Re: Filming Begins on The Hobbit
That's an interesting article....this December for the first one....I'll see it.
But this makes no sense unless she was down there last spring rather than this month when article is dated:
Leaving the U.S. on a Sunday night, we have crossed the dateline and actually arrived in Wellington on Tuesday. On Wednesday and Thursday -- with some rain and a hint of the coming winter in the air (the seasons down here are reversed from ours) -
