Fox TV show ‘Hieroglyph’ begins production in ABQ

A Fox pilot will film in New Mexico.
Casting is underway for the pilot “Hieroglyph,” a production that will begin filming in mid-March for two weeks.
Set in ancient Egypt, where fantasy and reality intertwined, “Hieroglyph” follows a notorious thief who is plucked from prison to serve the Pharaoh, navigating palace intrigue, seductive concubines, criminal underbellies and even a few divine sorcerers.
The series is going to star Reece Ritchie as Shai, Kelsey Chow as Lotus and Condola Rashad as Nefertari.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome 20th Century Fox Television and ‘Heiroglyph’ to New Mexico, and we look forward to supporting the productions efforts with ourexcellent crew, facilities and vendors,” said Nick Maniatis, director of the New Mexico Film Office.
Production is expected to continue for 13 episodes through July.
According to the film office, the production will be employing approximately 150 New Mexico crew members as well as 150 resident actors and background talent.
“We are thrilled that Fox has chosen to bring the production of ‘Hieroglyph’ to Albuquerque. These projects generally involve both direct and indirect benefits to our local economy and we welcome their team and look forward to working with them,” Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry said.
The series is being produced by Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, Miguel Sapochnik and Travis Beacham.
A side note: The 2014 New Mexico Film and Media Day at the Legislature will take place on Monday, Feb. 10 in Santa Fe.
Robert Baxter will be hosting a casting call for two projects — “Manhattan” and “Longmire.”
Hundreds of extras are being sought for the two TV shows. The shows are looking to fill roles as military police, scientists, Native Americans and other. This event will take place from 1-4 p.m. in Morgan Hall at the State Land Office.

January Jones is coming back to New Mexico.
The “Mad Men” actress was last in The Land of Enchantment when filming the Western “Sweetwater.”
She will return for the feature “Good Kill,” at the end of February.
“Good Kill” is the story of a Las Vegas, Nev. military pilot who begins to question his mission after he is assigned to pilot a remote controlled drone to fight the Taliban 12 hours a day.
The film also stars Ethan Hawke, Zoe Kravitz and Jake Abel.
Production will begin at the end of this month and shoot through March.
According to the New Mexico Film Office, the production will be comprised of 95 percent New Mexico residents, with nearly 140 crew members and 15 actors and 200 local background talent.
The film is being produced by Nicolas Chartier, Zev Foreman and Marc Amin.
Directing the film will be Andrew Niccol, who also returns after filming “The Host” in New Mexico in 2012.
