I have never heard of the song they are singing so don't know how it compares to the original, or who/what that group is....

Those musical episodes are a lot more complex than you'd think !

That was an adequate finale if not the greatest that could be imagined, but considering at the time it was filmed they didn't know for sure that they would be cancelled. The "new world" where Alice and some of the others are now looks interesting and could form the basis for a new series but that's very unlikely.
