We’ve already learned about some of the new twists and changes for Big Brother Over the Top but now we’ve got more details from executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan on just how this BBOTT season will work.
Big Brother Over The Top
One of the things we’ve seen in the BBOTT schedule and wondered about was the “Safety Ceremony” which starts a day before the nominations are revealed and now we have more details on that. The EPs also discuss how live competitions will work, picking the two wildcards, and cleaning out that disgusting house in a few short days.
With the focus of the series shifting away from hour to fit things down to three hours of CBS TV and now becoming how to fill 7 days of Feeds there were going to be some changes. One of the first is how the nominations are played out, or rather how they’re drawn out. Speaking with Yahoo! TV, Grodner and Meehan shared some insight there.
So the safety ceremony is a play on nomination that plays out over a longer period of time so that people can tune in more often to find out who is safe over the course of a couple days. As opposed to everything happening in one moment at the nomination ceremony, which is over really quickly, this is something that’s going to play out over a couple days — ending with the two people that will be nominated for eviction.
Remember how HGs would lose the backyard for days at a time? Well that’s gone, or at least it’ll be greatly reduced for BBOTT:
We anticipate there being more access to the yard on a daily basis — whereas on the broadcast version sometimes they would get locked down for four days at a time while we build these big, epic challenges in the backyard, and it kind of can mess their clock up because they’re never outside.
We think with them being able to have more access outside, hopefully they can keep a more normal schedule so they are awake when people are watching the feeds and they aren’t sleeping all day.
If the comps aren’t going to be those massive, backyard takeovers then this could be a significant change from what we’re used to seeing. And remember there are no blackouts this season on the Live Feeds so we’ll see things happen in the moment instead of airing four days later on CBS. Meehan explains:
Because everything is live you know things can play out over a longer period of time, so we can have competitions that you can watch hour by hour. And because [the competitions] are live, when we develop those challenges they have to be able to stand on their own and have the Head of Household be able to host, so they’re going to be less complicated. They’re going to play out longer and they’re going to be different.
While I love the idea of no more blackouts, the idea that these comps which will be held at MIDNIGHT (!) ET will “play out… longer” and “you can watch hour by hour” sounds awful. If they’re going to have these things run so long why bury them in the middle of the night? Why not hold evictions live on Wednesday night and HoH comps the next day when people are awake to see it? Blerg.

Jumping over to another twist of the season with the returning players, either Jason Roy or Jozea Flores, Grodner explained how they came to choose those two options.
We were looking for two standout personalities that were gone early in the game that didn’t get to jury, quite, from recent seasons… They are over-the-top personalities who didn’t stay too long to amass a big [fan following].
Neither stayed too long, but when it comes to a popular vote Jason definitely had the edge for building up a fanbase to help vote him back in. If we’re going to do Vets then might as well let them both back in, but I doubt that’ll happen.
Finally, while I think it’d be best to burn it to the ground each season and start over that’s clearly not an option especially when there’s just a few days between seasons. But they at least cleaned it, right? I mean really, really cleaned it, right? Grodner says it’s fresh and clean at least down to the mattresses. Pro-tip, BBOTT HGs, avoid Paulie’s old bed.
I will assure you that we did the same amount of cleaning that we do every year. We definitely came in and scrubbed it from top to bottom. There are new linens, new sheets, new mattress covers, all of that. The floors were scrubbed, [new] pots and pans, all of that. So yes, rest assured we are not putting our next group of houseguests in any kind of germ danger.
Considering how much of the house is the same (check out the new BBOTT House photo gallery) I’m sure we’re not getting the same level of fresh and clean as they do between seasons, but I doubt there’s anything besides an army of ants waiting to dominate the HGs’ new home.

Re: BB Over the Top starts tonite: New thread
Finally ! After 2 hours and the HGs coming in one at a time, Jason the 13th HG and the one voted in by the fans, comes in. Nothing else happening except general shmoosing among the HGs ............now BB just announced that there is champagne in the storage room. They never give them hard liquor or enough wine or beer to get potted, although there have been times in past seasons. including 18, where a couple of HGs managed to corner enough alcohol from the limited supply to get tipsy, but they weren't too obvious about it and BB didn't do anything about it.

Re: BB Over the Top starts tonite: New thread
So far there is just incessant blathering among the group about nothing in particular. The 24/7 live feed without the many "we'll be right back" screens during the regular BB is an improvement but it would be nice if there was something interesting to see during the 'always on' live feeds . There is supposed to be an HOH comp later today which we will see in its entirety and will take place inside because they are all locked outside in the yard while production prepares the comp inside. This agrees with what production said earlier in that there won't be the elaborate comp. set ups in the yard which often took several days to set up while the HGs were locked inside.
The Move-In
Julie informs the viewers that the houseguests will be moving into the house one-by-one throughout the premiere, with either Jason or Jozea entering last.
The first houseguest to move in is Scott. He is in awe of the house and quickly begins to examine it. He finds some peculiar things inside, including a secret door that is locked and a phone that requires 10 cents to use. Clearly, he is already starting to strategize.
Next up is Morgan, who jumps with Scott in excitement to finally be inside the house. "We're in the Big Brother house!" Morgan exclaims.
As she and Scott walk through the house, he shows her the door and the phone that he found earlier. Inside the yoga-themed room, they find messages written to them from season 18's final three -- James, Nicole and Paul. Morgan and Scott reveal that they have no clue which of them won season 18, most likely because they were placed in sequester around that time.
There is a ton of awkward silence between Morgan and Scott, but luckily, Shane comes through the door next and breaks it up. Morgan immediately tells Shane how much she loves his hair. The three of them mention being the first three in the house, but they refrain from forming an official final three alliance.
Morgan, Scott and Shane discover that there are 13 plates on the table, so they believe that is the amount of houseguests playing the game this season. However, they also notice two things in the kitchen which could change the game. There are 16 keyholes on the memory wall and three more plates on a bigger table. Could one major twist be that more houseguests will be added to the game, to match the 16 keyholes and plates? "Who knows what they have in store for us," Scott tells the other two.
When Neely enters the house, she falls in love with the decorations and furniture. "It's a diva's paradise," she screams.
It seems as though there is a long wait for the next houseguest to come in after Neely enters. What this unedited, live-feeds-only version of the season shows is just how awkward it is between the houseguests when they first move in. They are all just making smalltalk in between the numerous periods of silence.
Shelby and Cornbread are the next two houseguests to enter, and they quickly disrupt the awkward silence inside the house. Shelby, specifically, seems to liven up the house with her unique voice and outspoken personality, but could this cause her to be seen as an early target to the other houseguests?
Kryssie and Whitney come into the house next. With there being no televised broadcasts, the houseguests spill secrets about production. Both Kryssie and Whitney reveal that prior to entering the house, production confiscated some of their belongings and clothes. Surely, this happens on every season of the show.
QUIZ: What Type of Big Brother Showmance Would You Have? >>>
The Strategizing Begins
After Justin moves in, the houseguests begin to break off from the group and get to know each other. However, it does not seem as though any alliances have been made just yet.
Shelby, specifically, starts to get quiet while the rest of the group talks to each other. She appears to be eyeing them up and watching them closely. Is her brain already going to work?
Morgan's sister, Alex, then enters the house. Despite them being related, they do not act like they know each other at all. Morgan may want to watch her facial expressions, though, because she appears to be nervous while Alex greets the rest of the houseguests.
The final two of the new houseguests to move in are Monte and Danielle. Monte seems to quickly bond with Shane as Shane shows him around the house. Could they end up forming a strong male duo, similar to season 18's Paul and Victor?
As Julie said at the beginning of the episode, the last houseguest to move in will be either Jason or Jozea. Jason walks through the door, confirming that he has won America's vote. He now has a second chance at the grand prize. "Hey, hookers!" Jason yells upon reentering the house.
The houseguests all come together in the living room to drink some champagne and celebrate the beginning of the game. They toast to "B-B-O-T-T" and decide to get to know each other better.
Clearly, some of the houseguests are already playing the game. Neither Alex nor Morgan say that they are sisters, and Shelby refrains from revealing her true occupation of being a lawyer. Instead, she tells them that she is a waitress. Will any of these girls' secrets be revealed as the season progresses? Only time will tell.
Julie interrupts the champagne drinking to discuss how the show will work. She tells the houseguests that there will be no jury this season, because America will decide the winner. She also reveals that the first Head of Household competition will take place the following day, giving them a night free from the game.
What do you think of this season so far? Do you think you'll like this new format? Do you have any favorite contestants yet? Do you think there will be more houseguests added to the game to match the 16 keyholes on the memory wall? Are you excited Jason is back? Let us know your thoughts on the premiere in the comments section and in the poll below.

Re: BB Over the Top starts tonite: New thread
I cancelled my all-access subscription. There aren't any really interesting HGs , and the way they have the HOH and comps scheduled I'd have to be on the computer too much in the evening. And I can keep up with what's happening anyway by just going to the BB 18 site which carries all the OOT happenings.
