Possible Blu5 Con in 2020
BoardMomma called and said she had been in touch with some of former Con-goers. She discussed the chances of us having another meet-up. Apparently there is enough interest to warrant opening up a thread for ongoing discussion. Our initial idea is to return to Roswell...or Albuquerque. Any thoughts?

Re: Possible Blu5 Con in 2020
It's worth pursuing. My own thoughts would be to base it in Albq. with a day trip to Roswell due to the greater things to see/do in Albq. and the greater choices for lodging/eating, etc. Also, would it be during the UFO Festival in Roswell ? Other than that weekend there isn't a whole lot to see in Roswell.

I agree completely. Even the UFO fest was not quite as interesting as many other locations you have taken us to, Banjo. I love when explore the small towns and I hear that Las Cruses (which was mentioned quite a bit in Roswell) has a wonderful museum/art gallery. As to when...I'm completely open to anytime.

Re: Possible Blu5 Con in 2020
There are many other places we could go that would require quite a bit more driving. Las Cruces is about 220 miles, the Space Museum in Alamogordo isn't as far. El Morro Mon. is 125, Bandelier Mon. is 90, etc.

Quite a few art galleries here. I don't think you've been there, Deb has.

Re: Possible Blu5 Con in 2020
Hi All,
I am hoping to do Thanksgiving in Elephant Butt, New Mexico this year, so next year is open. I have friends who are flying to ABQ for the balloon Festival. They didn't plan ahead to get a good hotel. All their talk makes me want to be there with all of my Blu5 friends.
I would really like to go to Carlsbad Caverns. I have been re-reading the Roswell books and there is a lot I have forgotten, but they go camping at the Caverns. For those who don't camp, I could do some glamping at the Cavern.
Maybe we could go to the new Roswell filming area and make some new memories. Or we could do our own small town bowl-a-thong with some big-time Blu5 family-friends.

Re: Possible Blu5 Con in 2020
The 'new' Roswell filming areas would be hard to find, or get close to if you did find them. Some of the indoor scenes are filmed at Albq. Studios and of course you can't get through the gate without a good reason or pass, or authorization. Some of the outdoor scenes are filmed out west of town beyond the mesa. There are dirt access roads allowing the equip. trucks to get out there. I think they use some of the same areas that Breaking Bad did. But it's still controlled access and it's so far west that no one can even tell when they are out there. The other interesting location appears to be somewhere up north along the back road to Santa Fe judging by the mntns. in the back ground and the cave where the pods are looks like a genuine entrance to one of the old, abandoned Gold mines that are in that area. But I've always wondered if they would lug the equip. all the way up there just to use an abandoned mine entrance. But the terrain visible in some scenes does look like that area.

Right, I know, it is a business and they don't really want strangers snooping about.
I read somewhere, that they use the outside of buildings, but the insides are in a studio. I think the cave where the pods are kept is a green screen and bunker under the cabin and the alien hid-away under the trailer is the same studio room - redressed.
Will just have to find other things to see that out half aliens might like
I have never been disappointed when I visiting New Mexico

Re: Possible Blu5 Con in 2020
No doubt that the cave interior is in a studio with green screen as necessary. But the outside entrance to the cave looks a lot like a real mine entrance, boarded up and off limits to the casual hiker, etc.

Re: Possible Blu5 Con in 2020
Sounds good ! Everything is still the same around here, ie, no earthquake chasms, tsunamis, radioactive alien artifacts, etc. ,and still plenty of places you haven't been too/seen yet.

Yeah, I know. Just not possible. Some areas experiencing more deaths since we started to open up. Dallas county has been put on shelter in place. No grocery store or anything.
So I say we start planning now. :)

Re: Possible Blu5 Con in 2020
Surprise! Missed ya'll!
The last 4 years (not exactly sure when I kind of went MIA?) have been crazy. My mom died 4 years ago May 12th. Began taking care of my dad and then in July 2017 my mother in law came to live with us. Her home had some major water (sewage) damage and her health (physical and mental) was deteriorating.
My youngest daughter Christy and her boy Jake moved in with us in September of 2015. Her husband left them in Louisiana. Jake was 6 months old. They still live with us.
In July 2017 my dad paid for all of us (Larry, Christy,
Jake, Bethany and me) to fly to Alaska to celebrate his 90th birthday with my brother and his whole family! We had a great time! Dad also got to do the Honor Flights for Vets in September. My brother went with him. They even gave Scott a discount since he was retired from the AF! The Tuesday before Thanksgiving dad suffered a brain bleed and passed away on Friday after Thanksgiving 2017. He had a fabulous 90th year though! Miss them both tremendously!
We had major work done on Larry's mom's house AND major clean out ... she was a pack rat! Sold her home in September 2018. We decided to start working on our place too. Had 4 people want to look at our house before we were finished. Sold it in October 2019 (without a Realator!) and moved to Spartanburg SC November 2019 with mil and Jake. Christy came in January when she found a job. We are about 30 minutes (instead of 10 hours) from Bethany, David and their 2 boys, Wade (2) and Wells (4 months).
Larry's mom continued to decline (especially after the move) we put her on hospice March 13th. Right before the shutdown! She began to decline rapidly and finally passed away April 21st. Drove back to Indiana for the funeral. Only family allowed.
Larry hasn't worked since we have been here in SC. So prayers that he finds a job soon. He turns 65 in December.
Quick recap! More stuff happened over the years but will update in person.
Regarding 2020 Con ... I definitely want to get together ASAP! MIss you ALL immensely!!!!

It has been too long without a clear purpose in life...once all the Sirens checked out of my life I was like "uhh...maybe I'll...no, did that...oh wait I could go on a tri...nope, dangit, no time...".
