James Marsters in Scifi's "Alien Western"
11.21.2008
Alien Western, a sci-fi television film about giant, vicious, alien bugs that
come to earth to gorge themselves on the uranium deposits found in the ground
of an Old West town, began principal photography this week in Romania starring
James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Smallville) as Sam Danville, an outlaw
who is about to be hanged when the aliens land. Sam leads a small group of survivors
who fight the creatures.
The frightening story is written by Richard Beattie (Cold Comfort; Almost Heaven)
and directed by KT Donaldson (Pursued; Anna's Storm). Muse Entertainment and Media
Pro are producing the picture for the SCI FI Channel in the U.S. and Super Channel
in Canada.
Cindy Sampson (Swamp Devil; A Christmas Choir) takes on the role of the nurse
Abigail and the hero's love interest. Sebastian Knapp (Beyond the Rave; Sand Serpents)
is Jules, the scientist who discovered the uranium mine that attracted the alien
invaders. Sanny Van Heteren (The Last Word; Inside Out) plays Rose, a fast-talking,
fast-shooting bounty hunter and Antony Byrne (Straightheads; Doctors) plays Gus,
a fellow prisoner of Sam's who has his own designs on the uranium ore.
"Alien Western will put you in your seat and keep you there for 2 hours. Forget
the days of the 'good guy getting his gal'. The real question in this film is
who, or should I say what, will get the good guy? The authentic feel of the old
west combined with outstanding visual effects will definitely twist any preconceived
idea of the western genre," says Producer Ric Nish (Durham County; Swamp Devil).
The director of photography of this CGI-and-special-effects-laden extravaganza
is Pierre Jodoin (Flood; Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), the production designer is
Guy Lalande (The Deal) and the editor is Simon Webb (Tales from the Neverending
Story). Muse Entertainment's Michael Prupas (Human Trafficking) is executive producer
along with Irene Litinsky (The Last Templar), RHI Entertainment's Robert Halmi,
Sr. (Tin Man) and Robert Halmi, Jr (Flash Gordon). RHI Entertainment is the international
distributor.

Not till the last half of 2010. It will probably have a title change by then too. I'll let you know.
