As some of the cast says in this clip, it would seem that having them sail off on a yacht would be rather limiting for plot development. But the producers talk like there will possibilities for character development as if they were still on land. But we'll see.....

AMC Sets Premiere Date for 'Fear the Walking Dead' Season 2
Friday, January 08, 2016
John Kubicek
Senior Writer, BuddyTV
Zombie fans will be getting fed all spring long on AMC. The network has announced that the second season of Fear the Walking Dead, the prequel series to the original hit, will premiere Sunday, April 10 at 9pm. This season it will be followed every week by the Chris Hardwick-hosted Talking Dead.
The date ensures that there will be no break for zombie fans. The second half of The Walking Dead season 6 will premiere on Valentine's Day, February 14, with the season finale set for April 3. Season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead will consist of 15 episodes, divided into two sections. The first seven will air in the spring, with the other eight airing later in 2016. This means fans will be getting 15 straight weeks of zombie action between the two shows.
AMC also set premiere date for two other programs this spring. The six-part miniseries The Night Manager will debut Tuesday, April 19 at 10pm. The espionage thriller based on a novel by John le Carre stars Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie.
Finally, the third season of the Revolutionary War drama Turn: Washington's Spies, kicks off Monday, April 25 at 10pm. The 10 episodes of season 3 will lead up to one of the most iconic moments from that time, the defection of Benedict Arnold.
In addition, the network will soon begin production on a new drama, Feed the Beast, scheduled to air in May. The drama from Clyde Phillips (Dexter, Nurse Jackie) centers on two friends opening a restaurant in the Bronx. And AMC has ordered another new series, The Son, a multi-generational take of a Texas family told through two different time periods, one in 1849 and the other 60 years later.

Ep 1 off to a good start. Now we know there will be 15 eps in the season but I expect they will break it into two sections just like they do with TWD and Better Call Saul. We don't like that but I suppose it makes production easier and keeps the fan interest going all year long.

We know from "experience" that having a rabid fan base isn't enough to keep a show going, but when they make money for the network as these do, TPTB are smart enough to keep them.

Several interesting things from last night's episode:
When the little girl sings the 'ring around the rosie' song Kim's daughter knows what it refers to:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
When they were on the "Park Ranger's" island, that was an entirely fictional island. They looked across the water and could see the real Catalina Island in the distance, with its distinctive, round building, now a museum and casino, but back in the day it was a ballroom/auditorium where the "big bands" of the day played and was a place for the 'Hollywood Elite' to go to be seen.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Their fictitious island would have been in the lower left corner in this pic, they would be looking SW toward Catalina. No such island....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
On The Talking Dead last night they had 3 interesting guests; Lou Diamond Phillips from Longmire, a pretty, black actress from Sleepy Hollow, and Kim Dickens from FTWD.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Kim told about the scene where "Willa" the 5-6 year old daughter of the Park Ranger, takes one of the suicide pills, not knowing what it was, dies, and comes back as a Walker. When her mother comes in and finds her lying on the floor, presumably dead, she kneels down over her, in spite of Kim telling her it's dangerous, and of course "Willa" rises up and bites her mother in the neck. The crew wondered how such a young child would handle such a scene, but she pulled it off perfectly in one take. Kim said that she told them that she just did it like her dog plays with his toys... The little girl was also on Mad Men playing a daughter, so she's not exactly inexperienced.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Then in the scene where Cliff Curtis is talking to the Park Ranger, the Ranger recognizes him as a Maori, which of course he is in real life. That's the first time his ethnicity has ever been referenced on the show.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A fan asked the guests who they would most like to have with them in a zombie apocalypse. Kim said, her mother who was in the audience. Everyone goes....'awww'...
Lou Diamond Phillips said of course his wife Yvonne. At first the Sleepy Hollow actress had said her dog, but when she heard Lou's answer she quickly switched to ...."I mean my boyfriend !"......with some embarrassment....
Finally, in the previews for next week we see a brief scene with the Asian woman from Flight 462. She is in a life raft and there seems to be the wreckage of an aircraft fuselage.......apparently its approach to LAX as seen in episode 16 of "Flight 462" was unsuccessful, for some reason, and it crashed on or near the beach. So, is she the only survivor or did the teenage boy survive too ? We may learn next week.

So Strand has a 'secret agenda' it seems, what they find when they get to his destination is anyone's guess. But we can note that he's using a satellite phone. Would the satellite TV, phone, GPS system still be up and running at this point in the apocalypse ? I'm guessing no, because it requires constant monitoring and fine tuning even if the satellites just keep orbiting. The operators could be holed up out of reach of the Walkers but the power grid is collapsing and even with emergency back-up the diesel generators need fuel sooner than later.

If you listen closely to what Strand says on the satellite phone, he says he's "80 miles NW of Capistrano Bight", which is apparently his intended destination, and that no one else on board knows about. I was curious about what Capistrano Bight is. I thought a "bight" was a small piece of land jutting out from a beach or something similar. Google Earth .....

Re: Fear the Walking Dead ...season 2

There are some serious " crash physics" problems with that last episode.
First we see the Asian women (we learned that she's named 'Alex' and is played by Michelle Ang, also from New Zealand in real life, very rare to have two actors from NZ in the same production as noted on The Talking Dead) in a life raft trying to help "Jake" the teenage boy, badly burned in the crash of Flight 462, and all around them we see the wreckage of 462 with other survivors in the water and the vertical fin of the tail sticking up out of the water.
Then later when Travis' and Madison's kids go on shore to salvage stuff from the wreckage that might be usable, we see that more of the 462 wreckage is up on the bluff above the beach. There is a section of the fuselage, the 'rear section' we are told, with a few passengers still trapped inside, the 'dead' ones having already turned into Walkers, one still-living survivor, for the moment. Luggage is strewn all around the crash area.
Now here's the "physics problem" : Presumably the plane blew up in the air. The rear section landed on the bluff, the rest continued out to sea and crashed fairly far off shore but within sight of land. But...how did the tail section with the vertical fin get way out there if the 'rear section' of the fuselage broke off and stayed on shore ?
If the rear section broke off it would have carried the tail section down with it. There is no way that the tail section (the correct term is 'empennage' ) could have broken off from the rear fuselage section then continued out to sea on its own and come down with the forward part of the plane, the forward fuselage, wings, engines, etc.
Then we see another "problem", several dozen Walkers, presumably the 'dead' passengers from the rear section who were blown out of the plane, falling to their deaths, coming down the sand dunes. Their clothes were in very good shape to have survived that incident. No burns, tears, shredding, etc. They of course were typical Walkers, staggering, shambling, arms loosely swinging, lusting for human flesh. So far, so good, but where had they been, until the kids from the boat showed up ? Did they all get blown out in one small group, landing in one tight area on the ground, then 'forming up' in a line to come walking menacingly over the top of the dune ? Doesn't seem very likely from a 'physics' standpoint.
Of course the salvage operation in itself was as much of an unplanned, undisciplined event as can be imagined and they barely escaped off the beach intact and of course with none of the luggage they intended to collect. Travis needs to sit them all down and say, "Start using your brains, for something other than Walker food ! I'm tired of rescuing your butts ! "
Then at the end we see Strand cutting the tow rope and setting Alex and Jake adrift on the open sea to await what fate ?
On the Talking Dead Chris said that he hoped that Alex, at least, would be seen again because she's a good character and knows what's going on. Michelle Ang, who was one of the guests on the couch remained mum and noncommittal of course and didn't reveal anything with her facial expressions. She's a looker and we hope she is 'rescued' and sticks around for the rest of the season. The rest of the 'crew' certainly needs someone like her character who isn't a stumble-bum and can help with their minute-to-minute survival 'plans'.
So all we know for now is that Strand may or may not be lying about his house in Baja as a refuge, and who will he be meeting at the Capistrano Bight ?
Shaping up to be a good season, with hopefully no more 'physics' debacles.

It looks like Alex/ Michelle will be around for most of the season. Either Madison or someone else in their group got Strand to go back and pick them up, or another boat came along and rescued them. Not sure what happens to Jake. He was in really bad shape in the life raft.....

It is interesting to note that Nick is the first to discover that smearing himself with Walker blood and guts enables him to walk among or right past them, fooling them into believing that he is one of them. That 'trick' has also been discovered and used several times many months later on The Walking Dead.

So we find out that Alex had to kill Jake the teenage boy from Flt. 462, who was with her in the raft when Strand cut them loose from the Abigail, and she holds a grudge against them for doing that. Jake was near death in the raft and begged her to kill him before he drowned, so she choked him and threw him overboard.
Trading Reed for Travis after Reed turned into a Walker was a good but risky move. When Alicia's (Alycia Debnam-Carey) stunt double jumped off the tuna boat down onto the dock, we learned on The Talking Dead that the stunt managers use card board boxes to break the fall rather than foam pads or something similar. It takes one level of boxes for every 10 ft. of fall. They had rows of boxes stacked up three deep to break the stunt womans fall and tested it with a dummy on a rope beforehand in order to get the camera angles right.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
They used two tuna boats for all those shots, one in dry dock for the exterior shots and one in the water for the interior shots.

This is a new phenomenon...with the mid season finale coming up, will it be a cliff hanger ?

Ophelia's 'face peel' was a dream sequence, not real. But they did tell her to be very careful when doing it because a mistake would cause a 3-4 hour delay and more time in the makeup chair. But she 'pulled it off' perfectly in one take.
meanwhile...life imitates art...

In the season finale Nick decides to go with his father rather than his mother, and go back to the boat.
But maybe he'll show Travis how to smear himself with Walker blood and gore so that they can 'walk among them' without discovery. Nick was the very first to discover this 'technique' , used often later on The Walking Dead, so he gets some credit for that.

[VIDEO] 'Fear The Walking Dead' Promises New Locations, Badasses and More in Season 2b
r
Derek Stauffer
Contributing Writer, BuddyTV
Fear the Walking Dead is still treated like The Walking Dead's less superior little brother. The show took to Hall H in San Diego Comic Con 2016, determined to prove naysayers wrong. In a SDCC panel moderatored, of course, by Chris Hardwick, Fear the Walking Dead showed off an impressive new trailer for the last part of season 2 and promised a lot of excitement is in store for audience and characters alike.
Fear the Walking Dead Spring Finale Recap: Can the Group Stay Together? >>>
The SDCC panel started with a trailer for the second half of season 2, which will premiere on August 21, 2016 on AMC. In the trailer, embedded below, it really looks Fear the Walking Dead is starting to find its groove and what separates it from The Walking Dead. Most of the trailer deals with Madison and her group, trying to reconnect with Nick. We also see Nick join a new community of survivors in Mexico, which seems to be pretty safe from the zombie hordes.
After the trailer was done playing, the majority of the cast and the producers came on out on the San Diego Comic Con stage to talk about the rest of the season. They confirmed that season 2 will deal a lot with Mexico. The show will explore that area in depth and it will differ vastly from the locations of The Walking Dead. "It's the same world," The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman said, "But so different."
The change in location will also see a change in zombies and how the people deal with them. Greg Nicotero, one of the producers of Fear and The Walking Dead, promised a lot of fun new ways to deal with the zombie problems in Fear the Walking Dead.
When it comes to the new group that Nick runs across, they even have different views on zombies. The small community which Nick meets believes that zombies are necessarily a bad thing. Among the group will be Danay Garcia's new character, Luciano, who can be seen in the trailer. Much of Luciano's character boils down the Mexican cultural beliefs about life and death. There are 3 stages: the day you are born, the day you die and the day you are forgotten.
Fear the Walking Dead Photos: A First Look at Season 2b, Walking Dead Adds 4 Series Regulars >>>
The second half of Fear the Walking Dead season 2 will see the character separated and trying to survive. Cliff Curtis, who plays Travis, described all the characters of Fear as a group of "sad asses and badasses." Curtis believes that Travis will eventually become one of the badasses.
Kim Dickens, who plays one of the undisputed Fear the Walking Dead badasses, Madison, opened up about her character. Dickens said she is surprised by the lengths that Madison has gone to in keeping her family safe. She also promises, though, that we will see many more instances like it from Madison.
Other Panel Highlights:
Frank Dillane promises that Nick hasn't left his family forever, "he just needs some time."
Alycia Debnam Carey, who plays Alicia, said her character will finally become "an equal" in season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead.
Everyone on the cast agrees Colman Domingo (Strand) is the biggest practical joker on set.
Mercedes Mason is looking forward to playing Ofelia and Nick's eventual reunion.
So what do you think? Are you excited by the new trailer for season 2? What are you looking forward to happening in season 2b? Does the news that Fear the Walking Dead will be exploring Mexico intrigue you?

That was a good premire, almost entirely featuring Nick (Frank Dillane, who is universally praised by the other actors for his talent and ability to capture the essence of that role.) Also a new cast member Danay Garcia a Cuban actress, who was on the Talking Dead show afterward along with an exec prod. and Kim Dickens.

The hotel scenes were shot in the Rosarita Beach Hotel with paying guests staying there, so they had to shoot around them and avoid disturbing anyone. That must have been good entertainment for the guests, to watch them shoot those scenes.
The Rosarita Beach hotel has been a main base over the years for many of the teams running the Baja 1000.

Re: Fear the Walking Dead ...season 2
Since the second half of S2 started we haven't seen the Asian woman that was the only one on flight 462 that knew what was going on. She was rescued from the crash site at the beginning of S2 but we don't know where she's been lately.
