That's a relief ! We were worried sick that she might pull out.
Meanwhile the exec producers have asked the town council and mayor of Senoia, GA, where the production
HQ is and many sets are built around there, to approve them building a 4 story wooden, 'windmill' structure somewhere in town and give them authorization to keep it there for 3 years ! This is great news because it indicates that they expect the show to run for at least that much longer. The windmill appears in the comic books.
Senoia is a little town of about 4,000 population 30 miles south of Atlanta and they have been very welcoming to the production for the past 8 years. Of course all the tourists and fans coming and spending money at local businesses is a plus ! Often the production designers will spew trash all over the streets and shut some of them down while shooting scenes, and of course there are the big explosions in the dead of night which is when they prefer to do those types of scenes to avoid fans and tourists. But the citizens of Senoia don't mind.

This news has hit like a bombshell, leaving us reeling in disbelief. But it seems to be true, even the Hollywood Reporter has said it. If Norman Reedus ( Daryl Dixon) does take over as the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] male character it will signal a drastic change in the shows direction. But Scott Dixon and other execs have already said season 9 will be different.

He played a very popular character and his scripted death was one of the first on TWD that left fans wondering what was the point ?
In the premire of S9 we see that the shortage of gasoline, a time jump of 1 1/2 years from S8, has caused them to revert to horses and ammo is in short supply too causing them to use knives, axes, clubs, etc. at close quarters to dispatch Walkers rather than the preferred longer range gun shots. Of course gasoline would have been unusable much earlier because its lighter elements evaporate away leaving behind sort of a pungent 'varnish' substance. This can be delayed quite a bit by adding Sta-Bil to gas that isn't going to be used for awhile. Of course they never did that on the show.

Re: The Walking Dead season 9
The most anticipated and dramatic episode in the history of American TV !
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
So Rick survives and is carried off in the mysterious helicopter. Will he ever return to TWD ? TPTB say no, but Scott M. Gimple revealed on The Talking Dead , to everyone's surprise, that there will be a series of Walking Dead movies exploring the various characters back stories in detail, introducing new characters, and moving the action to new locations even out of the U.S. Gimple hinted that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) will appear in these new productions. No word on timeline for production of the movies.
Meanwhile at the end of the ep we see a flash forward of 6 years and Ricks daughter , Judith, has grown to 8-9 years old and is a crack shot with a semi-auto pistol at a range of ~100 ft. as she takes out some walkers menacing some new characters. Then she takes them into the Alexandria compound and when others question why they are there and who allowed them in, she steps up and says , " I did !"

After he mentioned her on The Talking Dead last night, and he pointed toward her in the audience, the camera never showed her so we were wondering who she was. But the camera never shows the audience anytime, why not I don't know.

That was a good premire of the back half of S9 !

Not the current Judith, they played her when she was a toddler.
This little girl plays Judith Grimes now.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I think she's about 9 but plays Judith as younger. Her age doesn't interfere with her scenes. If I recall, 30 minutes a day is the limit for kids of that age or similar. But she is a fan favorite and the directors say she always nails her scenes on the first take.
It is almost funny to see her handle the big .45 Cal. S & W revolver that she carries, and she's not afraid to use it as Negan found out last night !
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
She also carries a smaller version of Michonne's Samurai sword but there haven't been any scenes of her using it, yet.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
She "grew up" over the intervening 6 year time jump this season and was just a toddler when seen in S 8. We will recall that her mother was Lori Grimes , wife of Rick, but the father was actually Shane Walsh , played by John Bernthal, now The Punisher because Lori thought Rick was dead early on in the series. Lori died in childbirth because she had been bitten by a Walker and her son Carl had to shoot her to prevent her from "turning" after death. Judith was born okay and was looked after by other members of the group over the seasons.

Other cast members say that the actress that plays Lydia is a genius actor. She's new this season. Always super prepared and never have to do retakes on her scenes.

It took some work to design and build that water wheel set up, but they don't show what it is driving....

Since this ep couldn't have been used as a season ending cliffhanger, they are going to have to come up with one next week....

Not exactly a typical cliff hanger. Who was on the radio trying to contact them but no one was in the room to hear it. Much speculation as to who it was. Sounded like a woman's voice, either Maggie or Jadis. It is rumored that Lauren will be coming back in S10, given that there won't be working sched. conflicts with Whiskey Cavalier.

Meanwhile they did a great job on creating the blizzard. They did it in a big sound stage, 40K square ft., and used paper, foam, plastic, etc. to create the snow. Looked very realistic. Toward the end of shooting all the snow scenes, Melissa McBride said the the cast were continuing to wear the heavy clothes between takes because they began to feel cold.
