Re: Hawaii 5-0
The story on the ‘Hawaii Five-O’ set being “blessed”
got me thinking: Didn’t McGarrett have a sister on the original show?
Is she on the new one? – Layne
Yes, McGarrett’s younger sister did make a couple of
appearances on the original series. And yes, she will be a part of the
new ‘Five-O.’ Although there was some speculation that Taryn Manning’s ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ return might
conflict with her ‘Five-O’ gig, I am assured she will recur as Mary Ann.

Re: Hawaii 5-0
With it ready to premier in a week I have three observations/predictions
Alex O'Laughlin starred in Moonlight : Canceled after one season
3 Rivers : Canceled in less than one season.
Does this bode well for 5-0 ?
Scott Caan stars as Danno. He just wrapped up a season on Entourage playing a Hollywood talent manager. Playing a not likeable character. Danno is better.
Grace Park will not get to wear a bikini beyond one scene in ep 1.

Re: Hawaii 5-0
I don't think Alex O'Loughlin is what killed his previous series. And CBS thought enough of him to put him under one of those exclusive contracts that meant he could'nt work for anyone else while they tried to find another series for him. Seems like they have a lot of confidence in him.
Haven't seen Scott Caan before but he seems like he could be a good side kick.
Oh, the tragedy of a bikini-less Grace Park! Wait, that didn't come out right.
What I mean to say is that I am sure they will have her in many attractive outfits that will meet your exacting standards.

Re: Hawaii 5-0
My biggest problem with this story is a.) It's Hawaii 5-0..serious re-tread, very interesting cast tho. and b.) It conflicts with Castle, and I'm not giving that up, no way no day. I can't pass on Capt Tighty-pants.

Re: Hawaii 5-0
I like Alex O'Loughlin. Moonlight was the height of his recent career. I don't expect 5-0 to top it. Not because of any lack on his part but just because there are too many cop shows and this one looks like another bang-bang, crash and burn variant.
"What I mean to say is that I am sure they will have her in many attractive outfits that will meet your exacting standards. ".....we'll see about that.

You're not kidding anybody, you aren't going to be a long term watcher unless they add a tall, leggy blonde to the force and right quick!
I'll drop a word to James when I can and see if he can do anything about it. :D

Re: Hawaii 5-0
It's funny because I have a DVD/VCR combo that went I had to reset my TIVO, I lost my VCR somehow...I got overwhelmed by cables and know absolutely no one within range to sort it all out, not that I'd ask either...pride I suppose, not only a sin but flat out stupid usually. I'm just happy to have the DVD and the TIVO working.

‘Hawaii Five-0′ Gets an Upgrade to Modern Times
by Associated Press

BY: Mark NiesseHONOLULU – The elite crime-fighting team of ‘Hawaii Five-0‘ is back in the islands — this time with more bikinis, fewer stiff suits and a remix of the series’ classic theme song. The remake of the legendary series, which ran for 12 seasons from 1968 to 1980, debuts Monday at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS with a legacy to live up to.Like the original hit show, the new version’s cop team hunts down criminals, often ending with the catch phrase “Book ‘em, Danno!”But the rebooted version aims to add more witty banter, character back story and edginess to the formulaic detective work of the first series, which preceded a generation of crime dramas such as ‘Magnum, P.I.‘ and ‘Law & Order.’“You can do great action, and we do,” said executive producer Peter Lenkov. “But what’s fresh and different is the character development and humor.”Filmed onsite in Hawaii, ‘Hawaii Five-0′ aims to appeal to viewers by taking them to island scenes shot at sun-soaked beaches and landmark locations including Pearl Harbor, Iolani Palace and Waikiki.Alex O’Loughlin is replacing the original Detective Steve McGarrett, played by Jack Lord. As a former Navy SEAL, the new McGarrett has been recruited by Hawaii’s governor to lead a task force against criminals and terrorists intruding into the United States through its Pacific islands.“He’s part mercenary, and his tactics are pretty crazy. He does whatever he needs to do to get the job done,” O’Loughlin said during a break from filming on site in Honolulu. “We have respect for what came before us, but we’re not drawing from the old show.”Unlike his predecessor, O’Loughlin is more likely to go into a suspect’s house wearing a bulletproof vest, guns blazing. The Australian actor has Lord’s big shoes to fill after previously playing the lead in ‘Three Rivers’ and ‘Moonlight.’Alongside McGarrett is sidekick Danny “Danno” Williams (Scott Caan), a by-the-book detective who’s less than pleased with McGarrett’s full-speed-ahead attitude.“I don’t think that he’s a bad guy or anything,” said Caan, who has appeared on “Entourage.”“I just think he’s crazy,” he said. “That sets up the butting of heads and the personality clash.”Rounding out the four-member team are characters Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua. Both were part of the original series, but this time they should get more prominent roles because the show won’t rely as much on McGarrett alone.Another big change: Instead of Kono being the burly man seen in the series’ first run, the character has been transformed into a swimsuit-wearing rookie cop played by Grace Park.“To be able to have the experience all over again and revisit it with fresher eyes — that’s something people look forward to, to have a new different experience,” said Park, who previously starred on ‘Battlestar Galactica.’“Otherwise, we would’ve just rereleased the old DVDs again.”The show’s reinvention of itself will emphasize more teamwork rather than always making McGarrett the primary hero, said Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Chin Ho Kelly.“Our goal isn’t as much to improve on the original series as it is to adapt it to modern audiences,” said Kim, best known for his role in ‘Lost,’ which was also filmed in Hawaii. “There’s a different storytelling style now.”The show’s premiere coincides with the 42nd anniversary of its first run, which started Sept. 20, 1968.Watch Full Episodes of the Original ‘Hawaii Five-0′ on FancastIts writers hope to avoid the mistakes that led to the cancellation of other recent remakes such as “Knight Rider” and “Bionic Woman,” Lenkov said. Both of those shows lasted only one season. The characters in “Hawaii Five-0″ will be more three-dimensional than during the series’ first run, with their own troubled histories, unpredictable family ties and personal mistakes, he said.Viewers shouldn’t expect the new McGarrett’s hair to always stay in place or for his decisions to always work out.“Our Steve McGarrett — he’s a little more flawed than Jack Lord was,” Lenkov said. “That’s what makes him an interesting character. There’s a little grayness to him. I didn’t want him to be a superhero.”

The bad guys
That was then: No question, the original "Five-0" had a long line of great villains. Several matched wits with McGarrett on a regular basis, including mob bosses Henore Vaschon (Harold Gould) and Tony Alika (Ross Martin) and a pimp named Big Chicken, who was played Gavin MacLeod, who later helmed "The Love Boat" as Capt. Stubing.
Undoubtedly, McGarrett's greatest foe was Wo Fat, the Red Chinese agent introduced in the pilot and put behind bars 12 years later in the series finale. Wo Fat was played with deliciously evil intent by Khigh Dhiegh, a New Jersey native who was born Kenneth Dickerson. Although he played Asian roles throughout his career, Dhiegh was actually of Caucasian, Egyptian and Sudanese descent.
Who's bad now: The pilot features book-end appearances by a Euro-trash terrorist named Victor Hesse, played by James Marsters of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." He provides the impetus for the formation of the new outside-the-law "Five-0" team by murdering McGarrett's father before the first commercial. (In the original series, McGarrett's father was also a victim, run down by a supermarket robber.)
The new McGarrett -- O'Loughlin -- said "Five-0" won't disappoint when it comes to villains.
"There are great bad guys in every episode," he said. "Some of them change and some of them just might come back -- if you're lucky."

Nice review and recap of the show here:
http://www.tvfanatic.com/2010/09/hawaii-five-o-review-pilot/
Their only complaint...not enough James or Bill. Can't argue with that. Still it is always wonderful to watch real actors at work. They made an impact that will drive the whole show, I believe.
At least this is one show I don't have to worry about losing...the ratings were good.
Bill Sadler's response: OKay. That was fun but way too short. Stay tuned for flashbacks.

We can always hope that the funeral for Bill Sadler's "Dad" character was somehow staged; and that he's being kept in seclusion for an opportune reappearance!

Yes, it was a lovely and touching end. Disappointed to have no more Jameses in this eppie but at least Danno assured McGarrett that the Coast Guard would be sure to recover his body. And you all know that means.....we will see him again.

Yes, Fancast is a savior this season, although we must wait until Oct. 7th until they start putting up eps of this season's Sons of Anarchy.

Seen all of Sons so far...multiple showings and off network make that easy with Tivo. That's probably what I like the most about FX AMC, USA, TNT, TBS, A&E, BBCA...etc They don't care about ratings and they're usually still good.
