We must remember that this series takes place during the 6 weeks that Rick Grimes was in a coma in Atlanta. It's unclear at this time if the entirety of S1 takes place exactly within that 6 week period or if there is some +/- overlap, although I don't know how much difference it would make one way or the other.  It is advisable to go back and rewatch S1/ep 1 of The Walking Dead to refresh your understanding of Grimes' coma and what he found when he recovered.

New trailer for Ep 3 which doesn't show until 9-13. They always skip the Labor Day weekend because too many of the audience is out doing other things. We see from this trailer that the police still haven't figured out that head shots are the only way to stop a Walker.
